Taylor Heinicke is America based quarterback football player who plays for the Washington Football Team of the NFL (National Football League). He used to play college football at Old Dominion University. He has remained an important member of Minnesota Vikings which he joined as an undrafted free agent in 2015 and also played as a quarterback player for St. Louis BattleHawks of XFL in 2020.
Early Life
Taylor was born on 15th March 1993 in Lawrenceville, Georgia to Brett Heinicke and Diane Dodsworth. While playing football as a senior at the college level, Taylor Heinicke was named as the old spice national player of the year-the award which is presented to only 50 high school varsity football athletes. He was also the offensive player of the year being nominated by Gwinnett Daily Post after he ran for 4,218 yards and becomes the second most player in the state history and scored almost 44 touchdowns which made him the third ever most player in Georgia.
He threw over 300 yards in almost nine games in which he ran for a total of 354 yards with the pair of touchdowns. Following his senior season, he was invited to play for North/South All-Star Football Classic where he bagged almost 254 yards with three touchdowns. He once appeared on the reality TV show “The Ride” which further featured the high school quarterbacks.
Taylor Heinicke Career
In 2011, Taylor Heinicke was invited to play as an athlete at Old Dominion University and he accepted the invitation of the scholarship. He played for the team called “Old Dominion Monarchs Football” from 2011 to 2014. Taylor was also named to play for the All-CAA team Offense and was named the National Performer of the Year. He finished playing for Dominion (ODU) with rank #10 in the Football Championship Subdivision. In 2012, he was awarded All-America honors, Walter Payton Awards, and CAA Offensive player of the year. During the season of 2013, Old Dominion started the transition to Conference USA which meant that ODU was one of the independent teams playing for the 2013 season.
Heinicke led ODU with an overall record of 8-4 against the FSC opponents. During the season he scored 348 yards with 5 touchdowns. He punted 13 times, ran for 539 yards, and made the longest punt for the team with 61 yards. During the 13th season, Heinicke become the 18th quarterback from Division I and passed for 10,000 career yards while rushing for 1,000. His performance in the 2013 season put him in the top 10 FBS quarterbacks in passing yards and touchdowns.
NFL
Talking about his professional career then he participated in the 2015 NFL draft he wasn’t picked by any team. After two years, he got drafted by the Patriots for the practice squad however, management let go of him in October 2017. Later, Texans signed him for practice squad but got promoted to active roaster due to following injuries of Tom Savage and T.J. Yates. Finally, after two years of hard work and pure dedication, he got a chance to make his NFL debut against Pittsburgh Steelers where he could only register a pass attempt. Following a year in 2018, he went to the Carolina Panthers where he made a total of 6 appearances showed marvelous on-field skills.
He was named Starter of the Week 16 and went 33 for 53 for 274 yards, a TD along with 3 interceptions against Atlanta Falcons. Although, he was ruled out of the game following an elbow injury and was placed on the list of Injured Reserve. 2019 was the year where he went to XFL and joined St. Louis Battlehawks however, his contract was terminated because the whole league was called off due to COVID 19 pandemic. Washington Football Team got Taylor in the roaster for practice sessions and later got promoted to the active roster in December 2020. Talking about his recent performance than on 16th September 2021, he blasted off and played an important role in a 30-29 win over New York Giants.
