Laura was born on 20th august 1982 in Belfast, North Ireland. Her father is a general practitioner and her mother was a nurse and counselor although their names have not been shared. She grew up with her five siblings of which three are her sisters Susan, Helen, Kirsten, and two brothers Aiden and Conner. She grew up in Ireland in her hometown Belfast. Laura is currently 38 years old. Laura has not shared much about her education but once in an interview, she shared that she completed her high school education at the Rathmore Grammer school in Belfast. Later to pursue her career in acting, she enrolled in the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. She successfully graduated in 2004. A year after her graduation, Laura made her on-screen debut in 2005 with the Channel4 drama “Sugar Rush”. She appeared briefly for two episodes and also bagged a few more roles in “Casualty” and “Hex” the same year. In 2008 she got the lead role of Rachel in the Irish movie, “Insatiable”. Her performance in the movie gained her a lot of popularity and fame. Later in 2009, she went on to appear on various TV shows like “Occupation” and “Merlin” for few episodes. The same year, she also starred in a BBC television movie “Best: Mother to son” based on the life of George Best where she played the role of his sister.

Over the years, she appeared in various TV shows and films like Missing (2012), The Fall (2013) Hello carter (2013), Heart of lightness (2014), and The program (2015) to name a few. She also joined the cast of novel adapted series “Outlander” in 2014 as jenny. Other than these, she also has various theatrical productions under her credits. She performed in plays like “The wasp”, “Romeo and Juliet”, “Judgement day” and many more. She also performed in the theatrical production of “The River” alongside Hugh Jackman on Broadway.
Her most famous theatrical performance was for the portrayal of Caitlin Carney in “The Ferryman”. The play was performed at the Royal courts theatre and Broadway. Her recent appearances have been in the TV show “Britannia” Hella. The show started in 2018 and aired for 6 episodes till 2021. Her most famous performance to date was this year in the TV show “The Nevers” where she came in the lead role of Amalia True.

Laura is currently married to English play writer and screenwriter Jez Butterworth. The two started dating in 2017 and later got married. They have two children together though their names have not been shared. Earlier in the 1990s, Laura was in a long-time relationship with Nathan Connolly, the lead guitarist in the band Snow Patrol. They dated for fourteen years but broke up in 2014. She currently lives with her husband Jez and her children in London.
