His father was a college football player at Grossmont Junior College and Sacramento State University, where he played as a linebacker and defensive end. He graduated from Sacramento State with a degree in organizational communications in 2007.

He has a reputation for making incredible moves that leave his opponents stunned, leading many to consider him one of the best point guards in town. Former NCAA player Butler has transitioned into coaching and will be joining Norfolk State University’s coaching staff for the upcoming season.

With over 14 years of experience in various roles, including serving as Defensive Coordinator at Concordia University Chicago (CUC), Butler brings vast knowledge to his new role of coaching their defensive line.

Career

He achieved career-best rebounds in three games and set a personal record for offensive rebounds in one game. Butler also had multiple assist efforts in 16 games, with the team winning 13 of those games.

He was named one of the top 50 point guards nationally by ESPN and won multiple awards during his high school career, including the Ivy League Most Valuable Player as a senior. With 91 wins on his record, he also passed NBA Hall of Famer Reggie Miller as Poly’s all-time leading scorer with more than 1,800 career points.

Lamont Butler, a sophomore basketball player, has been ranked second in steals by the Mountain West and 104th in NCAA rankings. He was also named to the Paycom Wooden Legacy All-Tournament Team and the Mountain West All-Defensive Team by coaches.

In his 27 games played during the season, he started in 25 of them and averaged 7.3 points, 2.1 rebounds, and added 57 assists, with an overall playing time of over eleven hours. Lamont achieved new career highs for several statistical categories throughout this season as well.

Rise to Fame

In the 2022-2023 season, LaMont emerged as the biggest asset for SDSU. With his fiery game and skill on the court, he played a key role to lead his team to the final four. His buzzer-beating 3-pointer against New Mexico won SDSU Mountain West Conference regular season champions.

He became the top scorer with 18 points against Creighton in the elite eight matchup with a 57-56 win. Butler made the biggest play of this season for SDS, as he shoot a jumper in a 72-71 win over FAU. This was by far the fifth biggest margin comeback in the NCAA history of the final four.

His team is tough as nails and considered the strongest contender to win the title this year. Tonight whole squad of SDSU will enter to win the grand final of the NCAA Tournament including Nathan Mensah, Aguek Arop, Matt Bradley, and Adam Seiko.
