Trey Gambill was born in Fullerton, California on July 7, 2001 and raised in Alpine, Utah. Born to a very athletic home and a baseball-oriented family, he developed his athletic skills in a significant way. From an early age he was encouraged to achieve at a high level both on and off the field as the result of his parents’ Tyler and Cynthia Gambill.

The Gambills had a strong interest in baseball. Trey was raised with his brothers Cole, Tate and Kade, who were all sports lovers. Around baseball, however, this tight 40-acre circle not only provided competition but spurred early development of skills as well.

The family also had a deep interest in baseball, as several of his brothers followed in his footsteps to eventually have careers in the sport. Gambill played on the Lone Peak High School team in a number of different sports in Highland, Utah. He not only left his mark as a baseball player but also in other sports, notably basketball, further exhibiting his versatility and athleticism.

Trey Gambill has proven his worth in the area as one of the top young athletes. Gambill’s faith has been a major part of his life, as well. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and for a while he dropped academic studies and began to drop athletics as well for a two-year mission to the Church.

This life-changing experience deeply affected his character, maturity and perspective, and the latter would come in handy for the rest of his career in baseball. After his mission, Gambill went on to attend Salt Lake Community College, where he further honed his game.

The level of performance he provided earned him his NJCAA All-American accolade and got him caught up to the interest from the top Division I programs—making the trip west to the University of Oklahoma his natural choice.

Career

Trey Gambill built his baseball career through perseverance; constant growth and output. When he transferred to the University of Oklahoma, he immediately became a star in the Sooners baseball program, after leading the competition at Salt Lake Community College.

At Oklahoma Trey Gambill was a player who was consistently sent upfield and in the batter’s box. He’s 5 foot 11 and about 200 lbs., proving to be a strong, athletic and disciplined hitter.
When the Sooners played their first season in the SEC, the challenge was up to Gambill to play some of the best baseball programs in the country.

Oklahoma was well-prepared for postseason baseball by playing such top teams every week, he often said. Trey Gambill was a reliable attacker all along his career. His combination of power, skill and expertise made him a prime prospect to be one of the team’s best hitters.

Gambill became a key part of the Sooners’ lineup. During the 2025 season, he posted a .285 batting average, a .445 on-base percentage, and a .414 slugging percentage. He followed that with an even stronger 2026 campaign, batting .299 with a .441 on-base percentage and a .542 slugging percentage.

His ability to reach base, hit for power, and contribute in the outfield helped Oklahoma make a deep postseason run, including an appearance in the 2026 Men’s College World Series championship series. In addition to statistics, his experience as a leader came into its own in the clubhouse, especially during Oklahoma’s postseason winning streak.

2026 is one of the best seasons in his college career. Gambill had a great part to play in pushing Oklahoma to the finals of the Men’s College World Series. But playing baseball in college, in one of the toughest settings he had, brought his profile all the higher and put up his pressure resiliency to test!
