Aguek Arop Biography

Aguek Arop is a well-known Basketball player from South Sudan. He holds the position of a shooting guard and played for San Diego State Aztecs basketball team in NCAA. He is a 2023 NBA Draft from San Diego State (Sr). Aguek is the first Nebraska high school graduate in 80 years to play in the national championship against UConn Huskies tonight. 

Early Life

Aguek Arop was born on 29th May 1999 in Khartoum, Sudan, which makes him 22 years old as of 2023. He was brought up by his loving and caring parents named Arop and Aleuliny Arop. His family moved to Egypt to avoid a brutal civil war before ultimately arriving in Houston. Later, Aguek and his family moved to Omaha, Nebraska where he began to play basketball. He is one of nine children including six brothers (Akol Arop, Ajang, Makoor, Aguek, Deng, and Jacob) and two sisters (Achol and Athiang).

Talking about his education, he earned his primary education from Omaha South High School. Later, he enrolled at SDSU (San Diego State University) in 2018. In 2022, he acquired a Bachelor of arts (BA) degree in Multi-Interdisciplinary Studies. Currently, he is seeking his Master of Science degree in Homeland Security. 

Aguek Arop Career

Aguek began his career path as a student-athlete. During the 2015-16 season, he averaged 15.9 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.1 blocked. During the 2016-17 season, he led Omaha South High School to the state tournament and earned all-Metro first-team accolades. He was honored as Nebraska Gatorade Player of the Year in 2016. During 2017-18, he averaged 21 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists. He also attended skill training programs at TSF (The Skill Factory), a prep school outside of Atlanta, Ga.

Aguek played as a Freshman in 31 games. He had 30 assists, 18 blocks, and 17 steals in 453 minutes of playing time. He averaged 3.1 points, 2.7 rebounds, 44.6% (FG%), and 1.0 assist in 14.6 minutes per game. This season he also got surgery on his hip to repair damage to his labrum. He played as a Sophomore in 22 games in the 2019-20 season. He has 8 assists, 8 steals, and 5 blocks in 217 minutes of playing time. Arop averaged 3.1 points, 50% (FG%), and 2.3 rebounds in 9.9 minutes per game.

Later in the 2020-21 season, he played as a Junior in 20 games and earned 7 GS. He had 13 assists, 14 steals, and three blocks in 277:40 of playing time. Aguek averaged 4.2 points, 48.5% (FG%), and 2.3 rebounds in 13.9 minutes per game. Aguek played as a Senior in 25 games where he recorded 13 assists, 25 steals, and 7 blocks in 373.17 of playing time. He averaged .3.5 points, 45.7% (FG%), and 3.3 rebounds in 14.9 minutes per game.
