High School Career
Kelly Maxwell went to Clear Springs High School in League City, Texas where she began her career in softball and maintained a long career of around 4 years. During that time, she was being coached by Jennifer Knight. Despite managing her early life in softball, she has also managed herself with other games like volleyball. While playing her games in high school, she landed her first honor at the age of 12 in 2014 when she earned the title of team’s MVP.
Consequently, she was named MVP in the field of softball in 2015, 2016, and 2018. She earned the honor of being called first-team all-Galveston county selection on three occasions. With her hard work and consistent practices, she was given the honor of the District 24 newcomer of the year as a freshman in 2015. For a short period, she had to miss her other seasonal practices because of her injury. Consequently, she had to bounce back in her senior season and was later named to the District 24 all-pitcher first team.
Redshirt Freshman (2020)
Kelly Maxwell began the season with 8 starts for a total of 11 appearances for Cowgirls. She made around 46.1 innings pitched with a 1.51 ERA. Kelly appeared for the complete 4 games in her way where she recorded a score of 6-3 that year. She completed four games, made an average of around 0.175 with opponent batting, and became the top five in the Big 12 in shutouts. Kelly became an important part of the team where she earned the position of pitching staff leading to the Big 12 and thereby ranked third nationally in ERA. She appeared for her collegiate debut where she threw a perfect game against Florida A&M on 8th February 2020. Later on 11th February, she earned the title of Big 12 Pitcher of the Week and set a career-high with nine strikeouts against Murray State on 6th March 2020.
Redshirt Sophomore and Redshirt Junior (2021-2022)
At the beginning of the year 2021, she became the first team NFCA All-Region and first-team All-Big 12 honoree. She demonstrated herself to be a dominant member of the circle. She threw a no-hitter and remained stuck to her career-high with 10 strikeouts while playing against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on 23rd February 2021. At the beginning of the year 2022, Kelly earned the title of 2022 Big 12 Pitcher of the Year. Despite being honored with various awards and honors, she began her year while getting named as a Top 10 Finalist for USA Softball’s Collegiate Player of the Year award. Soon, she became the All-American candidate of the year, majoring with a record of around 18-4 and earning a 1.22 run average with 263 strikeouts and 160.1 innings.
