Early life
Iga Świątek was born on March 31st, 2001, and was brought up in Warsaw. She is the younger daughter of Tomasz Swiatek and Dorota. She has a sister named Agata who is three years older than her and is a student of dentistry at the Medical University of Lublin. Tomasz Swiatek was a former rower and competed in the Men’s quadruple sculls at the Seoul Olympics in 1988. Iga followed her elder sister in playing tennis and started training at the Mera Warsaw at the age of 14. Their mother was an orthodontist.

Just at the age of 13, She competed in ITF junior circuit and won in the low-level grade 4 in April & May 2015. Iga became a runner-up Czech Junior Open for both singles and doubles. She made her debut in the French Open in 2016. After that, she competed in the Canadian Open junior championship and went to the finals. In 2017 she won the Grade 1 Traralgon junior International for both singles and doubles. She competed in the Grand slam tournament twice in the year 2018. She also competed in the 2018 summer youth Olympics. This is how she completed her junior years.
Iga Świątek participated in the ITF women’s circuit in the year 2016 and played through to 2018 and won the ITF singles finals seven times. She won at the NEK Ladies Open in Hungary and the Montreux Ladies Open in Switzerland in the year 2018. She won two famous titles and entered the top 200 at the mere age of 17. At the age of 18, she made her first breakthrough at WTA in April at the Ladies Open Lugano. This was the same event in which she made her first WTA finals. She was declared runner-up for this same event. Having this runner-up in their hand, she made it into the top 100 list. Although successful in the WTA she could not win at the Grand Slam Events of the year.
Rise to Fame
She lost the second match in the US Open and her opening match at Wimbledon. Swiatek ranked up to the top 50 in that same week, but due to her injury and operation, she lost the rest of the US Open and was ranked 61 in the world for that year. In the year 2020, she made it to the French Open and was ranked 54 in the world. Iga became the first-ever Polish player to win a Grand Slam singles title. She competed in the Australian Open and lost in the fourth round.
Iga won her first WTA 1000th title at the Italian open. She qualified for the WTA finals for the first time this year. This year she reached her very first Australian Open quarterfinals. Won five titles at the sunshine double and was ranked the World’s no. 1. Iga will be competing against Cristina Bucsa in the third round of the Australian Open 2023 to secure her place in the round of 16 in the women’s singles.
