She served as an Academic Administrator in Shelby County Schools from March 2004 to June 2007 and then returned to the Minneapolis Public Schools as just an Associate Superintendent until August 2007 to June 2010. Brenda then worked at East Metro Integration Unit 6067 as a Superintendent of Schools from July to December 2010. Brenda then became Minnesota’s Commissioner of Education, a position she held from January 2011 to January 2019.
