He received the Freshman All-American honor from Collegiate Baseball in 2022. Purnell pitched out of the Florida bullpen in a team-high 36 games, compiling a 3-3 record, four saves, and a 2.86 ERA over 50 1/3 innings. He limited opponents and scored. a 258 batting average, allowing only two home runs in 222 batters faced (0.4 HR/9).
He pitched 1 2/3 no-hit innings of relief with two strikeouts in his collegiate debut against Liberty, and over his first 11 career appearances totaling 19 1/3 innings, he did not allow an earned run. His first career victory over Georgia State came after he pitched three scoreless innings on four hits and one strikeout. He won the with three and third shutout innings of relief and four strikeouts against No. 21 Miami.
Blake Purnell pitched two-thirds of an inning in relief against Alabama to earn his first career save. He pitched two and third no-hit innings of relief against No. 5 Florida State, fanning four, and secured the save. Blake worked in all four of Florida’s games, going 1-0 with one save and a 1.29 ERA across seven innings pitched, allowing only five hits with no walks allowed. He earned the save by limiting No. 2 Arkansas to one run over 3 1/3 frames.
On April 11, he was named the SEC Co-Freshman of the Week. He faced No. 20 Florida State on May 17 and went 1 2/3 innings without allowing a score. From May 10 vs. Bethune-Cookman until May 27 vs. Arkansas, Blake threw eight consecutive scoreless innings.
