Bernard Shaw was an American personality who developed himself into the lead news anchor for CNN and worked for the network from 1980 until his retirement in March 2001. The legend of Breaking News for CNN dedicated almost two decades of his life and he died from pneumonia after contracting COVID-19.

Early life

Bernard Shaw was born on 22nd May 1940, making him 82 years old as of 2022. He was brought up in Chicago, Illinois, to his loving, educated, and wonderful parents. His father’s name was Edgar Shaw who was a railroad employee and also used to work as a house painter. His mother’s name was Camilla (Murphy) Shaw who was a housekeeper. Shaw went to the University of Illinois in the same place where he was born, i.e, Chicago.

He received his first college degree from 1963 to 1968. He also gave his contribution and served in the U.S. Marine Corps and later served as the “Message Center” specialist, achieving the rank of corporal called E-4. He was passionate about clipping important information from the newspaper and exhibited his interest in media. Bernard often used to travel to Washington, DC on weekends. He developed his interest in baseball and also became friends with Walter Cronkite.

Bernard Shaw first began his career as an anchor and reporter and landed himself a job at WNUS in Chicago. In the same place, he shifted his job and joined hands with Westinghouse Broadcasting Company, working as a reporter. Later, he moved to Washington and became a White House Correspondent. He worked as a correspondent for the network called CBS News from 1971 to 1977 and later in 1977, he moved to ABC News and started working as a Latin American correspondent and bureau chief before finally getting promoted to Capitol Hill Senior Correspondent.

Shaw left ABC in 1980 and moved to CNN, where he started working as co-anchor working for PrimeNews broadcast, and anchoring, based in Washington, D.C. during the period, he covered a lot of live and thrilling news including the 1981 assassination attempt on U.S. President Ronald Reagan. Thereafter, he became the most reliable and established personality on the network CNN for the broadcast news at the early point. Shaw co-anchored the most-watched and the most famous CNN’s Inside Politics from 1992 to 20001, until he retired.

He appeared on the CNN network including in May 2005 when one of the international planes flew in the restricted space in Washington, DC. He also gave his contribution to co-anchoring Judy Woodruff’s last broadcast on CNN in June 2005. Shaw stated that in the area of nearly 41 years and giving everything to the work, what he missed in his personal life was that his cost wasn’t worth it. He appeared on CNN’s show called Erin Burnett OutFront, where he was supposed to recognize the 40th anniversary of the start of the network.
