Amy Hogue is currently serving for Utah Utes Softball as the head coach and carries hopes to win the national title. Early Life
Amy was born in Sandy, Utah, and grew up in a very traditional and caring family. Amy’s parents have always been supportive of her. Her brother is an ER doctor. Her brother has always been a major source of inspiration for her. She attended a local school and later joined the University of Utah after finishing school. Amy was on her college softball team and played for Utah for four years from 1991-1994.
Amy was an outstanding player and led the team to the Women’s College World Series twice. In 1994, she was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year. In her freshman year, she set the single-game record for at-bats(14) in NCAA Division I. It was the longest game in the history of NCAA softball. She helped the team win two conference titles.
Amy Hogue Career
Amy had a very successful collegiate softball career. After graduation, she played professional softball briefly. She toured with WPF Storm and later Dunham Dragons signed her for tournaments. Her career as a professional softball player ended soon.
Amy has a Master’s degree in social work and became a certified social worker. She was never planning to be a coach but when a position opened up at her alma mater she applied for it. Her former coach recommended her for the job.
Amy started working as a graduate assistant at Utah in 1994. She worked there for a year and then joined Alta High School as an assistant coach for the following two years. Amy then again joined Utah as an assistant coach. She worked there for three years. She was involved in all aspects of running the program.
In 1999, Amy joined Salt Lake City College as the head coach. Amy coached nine All-American standouts and 36 all-region players. She was named the SWAC Coach of the Year in 2003. She helped the team become a regional champion. After working for five seasons at SLCC, Amy went back to Utah in 2007.
She was announced as the head coach of the softball program. Under her guidance, the team won several conferences. She led the team to three consecutive NCAA Tournaments from 2015-2017. The team appeared back to back in Super Regionals in 2016 and 2017.
She was awarded the Pac-12 Coach of the Year honor in 2015. She had a huge impact on the team’s performance. Amy is in her 25th season affiliated with Utah which includes her sixteen seasons as a head coach there. She was mentioned in the Utah Athletics Hall of Fame in the Class of 2020.
