Tristen Newton is an American college basketball player. Currently, he is playing for UConn in the position of forward. He played for East Carolina for three years before transferring to UConn. Tristen is in the final season of his college basketball career and will like to end it by clinching the national championship.
Early Life
Tristen was born on April 26, 2001, in El Paso, Texas. His father is Montreal Newton and his mother is Erika Newton. Tristen has one older brother named Jawaun. He comes from a family of sportspersons. His brother is a grad transfer guard at Southern Illinois. His cousin Aaron Jones plays with Green Bay Packers and Alvin Jones is a former Baltimore Raven linebacker.
Tristen went to Burges High School. He first started playing basketball at the high school level. Later he joined East Carolina in 2019-20 and began his college basketball career. He played three seasons at East Carolina and then transferred to UConn in 2023.

Tristen played basketball for four years at Burges High School. He ended his high school basketball career with a total of 3266 points, 853 rebounds, and 334 steals. In his Senior year, he averaged 37.2 points. He led the team Mustangs to District 1-5A championship and was named El Paso Times Player of the Year. In 2019 he was selected to play in TABC All-Star Game. Later he joined East Carolina University and started his collegiate basketball career there.
He played all 31 of ECU’s games of the season 2019-20. He even set an ECU record for a total of 114 assists. As a sophomore, he appeared in 17 games in the season 2020-21. His last year as a junior at East Carolina was his best season as a college player. He played all 30 games of ECU and scored an average points of 17.7. in his final year, he had 28 double-figure scoring matches. After spending three years at ECU he transferred to UConn for his last season. He was granted an additional year by the NCAA.
