Tierna Davidson is an American soccer player who plays for the Chicago Red Stars of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), the highest division of women’s professional soccer in the United States and the United States women’s national soccer team. Early Life
Tierna Lillis Davidson was born on September 19, 1998, in Los Angeles, California. Davidson had aspirations of becoming an astronaut before deciding to pursue a career in professional soccer. Davidson started all 21 games for the Cardinal during her freshman season in 2016, and she was chosen to the Pac-12 All-Freshman squad as well as the All-Pac-12 Second Team after that season.
As a result of her efforts, Davidson was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year in 2017. She was a key member of the Stanford team that won the 2017 NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Tournament and was named the 2017 College Cup Most Outstanding Defensive Player. In 2018, Davidson only appeared in three games for the Cardinal after suffering a fractured ankle on September 9 against North Carolina.
Tierna Davidson Career
In November 2018, the NWSL modified the rules for the College Draft to allow players to enter the draught before their college eligibility had expired. After only three years at Stanford, Davidson was eligible to enter the 2019 NWSL College Draft. The Chicago Red Stars drafted Davidson first overall, following Andi Sullivan’s selection in 2018. Davidson joined the Red Stars on March 11, 2019. In 2018, Davidson represented the senior USWNT and the U-20 WNT, earning her first senior cap against Denmark on January 21, 2018. After the game, she joined the U-20 squad in Trinidad & Tobago for the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s U-20 Championship.
Davidson was not named to the final FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup squad due to her senior USWNT call-ups. On July 18, she was named to the 2018 USWNT roster. Davidson scored against Chile on August 31, 2018. Davidson missed the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s Championship due to an ankle fracture while playing for Stanford. Soccer’s Best Young Female Player. Davidson returned to the USWNT in January 2019 and was named to the SheBelieves Cup roster in February. Davidson was picked to the final 23-player team for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in May. To be part of the Olympic team in Tokyo in 2020, Davidson was selected in June 2021.
