Ryan Potter Biography

Ryan Potter is an American actor who made his debut in the Nickelodeon television series Supah Ninjas. He is also a martial artist, director, voice actor, and photographer and currently stars on DC’s series Titans as Beast Boy.

Early life

Ryan was born on September 12, 1995, in Portland, Oregon to a Japanese father and Jewish-American mother. He uses his mother’s maiden name Jordanna Potter-Lew and was raised in Tokyo until returning to the States when he was seven years old. His first language is Japanese but he is no longer fluent in it and has been raised by his single mother. Ryan was involved in many activities such as skateboarding, baseball, and playing the drums and when he was 8 years old, Ryan began studying White Tiger kung fu or Emperor’s Art, a discipline he pursued throughout growing up. In some interviews, Ryan mentioned he wants to become a director in the future. He has completed his schooling at The Juilliard School, New York and there are no insights regarding his further education.

Ryan Potter Career

Potter was first seen on television when he was cast as Mike Fukanaga in Nickelodeon’s action-comedy superheroes series Supah Ninjas. He saw a leaflet in his kung fu class that Nickelodeon was looking for teens to star in the series, he auditioned for the same and landed the lead role in the series. Following the premiere of the series, Ryan became one of the popular young artists and featured in magazines, shows, and covers. Due to the popularity of the series, Nickelodeon announced it had renewed Supah Ninjas for a second season and lasts till 2013. Subsequently, Ryan was seen on other shows such as Figure It Out and Fred: The Show.

In 2014 he played the main role of Peter Hammer in the film Senior Project and did a voice role of Hiro Hamada in the animated film Big Hero 6. His other voice role works are in Throne of Elves, The Samurai of Tsushima, Where’s Waldo?, and Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous. In 2018, Ryan was cast for the main role of Jo in Running for Grace along with Matt Dillion, Jim Caviezel, and Olivia Ritchie. At the same time, he also starred in DC’s Titans as Beast Boy or Garfield Logan. Currently, Potter does the voice role of Jenji Kon in the animated series Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous available on Netflix.

Philanthropy

Potter has always believed in giving back to society and hence since a very young age has been involved in charity work. In 2011 he founded an organization called Toybox of Hope, which provides bedsheets, jackets, and toys to children in homeless shelters in and around the Los Angeles area. In 2012, Ryan expanded the organization including a Birthday Party Box program.
