Robert Roldan Biography

Robert Roldan is a Colombian contemporary dancer. He has been performing since he was six years old. He won the first prize in the National Youth Dance Competition in 2008 and has been dancing professionally ever since. In his youth, he danced with many top choreographers, such as Ricardo Moraes, Carlos Membran, Juan Jose Lara, and Oscar Naranjo. Nowadays, he is a soloist with several ensembles, and in 2012 he won Best contemporary artist at the Latin American Culture Festival in Mexico City.

Early Life

It is a well-known fact that Robert Roldan was born on July 21, 1990, in Thousand Oaks, California. His parents are Domingo and Julia Roldan, and his younger brother Juan is also a dancer. In his childhood, he was taught to dance by his mother. As he grew older, he developed an interest in music, studying physics, mathematics, and history. He majored in advertising and media communications at the University of Miami and received a degree in advertising and media communications in 2011. He formed two dance companies during his studies, Miami Off-Broadway Dance Company and Miami Performing Arts Company.

In both companies, he performed with choreographers such as Ricardo Moraes, Carlos Membran, Juan Jose Lara, Oscar Naranjo, and Hugo Bolles. Dancing was the future of his family, and he regularly tried to study dance and music. But he was too young to train and instead became involved in art and craft activities with his friends. He enjoyed working with young people, especially young Cuban Americans, and he soon formed friendships with young Cuban American performing artists.
