Patrick started his career at the age of 22 years old. From May 2000 to Aug 2000, he served as a Legal Intern at National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, a nonprofit organization in Washington, DC. After that, he served as a Law Clerk at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, where he handled domestic violence and civil cases from Aug 2002 – Aug 2003. In 2003, he joined Whitman-Walker Health care in Washington, District of Columbia, and worked as Skadden Fellow.
The same year, he served as a staff Attorney for Disability Rights DC at University Legal Services. As an Attorney member, he was involved in conditions of care and treatment at St. Elizabeths Hospital. He also advocates for individual clients to obtain appropriate services and care. From Aug 2004 – May 2012, he worked as a Board Member for the Equality Maryland Foundation and Equality Maryland, Inc branch.
In December 2010, he became Public Policy Analyst at The National Disability Rights Network (NDRN), a nonprofit membership organization that provides legal services to people with disabilities in the United States. There, he gained experience and worked on various issues such as Social Security benefits, housing, and transportation. In May 2014, he joined Rails-to-Trails Conservancy (RTC), a nonprofit organization that works for Community Building, Economic Development, Active lifestyles, and Trail Networks.
In 2015, he rose to prominence when he was first elected as the mayor of College Park, Maryland. Later, he was re-elected for a second term in 2019. On 24th February 2022, he was honored with the “Local Hero Award” at the Cub Scout Pack 298. He received the Award for his many years of service and commitment to the city of College park.
