Malik Monk is an American professional basketball player who plays as a shooting guard for the Charlotte Hornets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was born on February 4th, 1998, in the city of Jonesboro, Arkansas to a lovely couple, Jacaynlene Monk and Michael Scales, and grew up with his brother who is also a basketball player Marcus Monk.
Malik attended a high school in Lepanto, Arkansas, which was called the East Poinsett County High School. He later got transferred to Bentonville High School in Bentonville, Arkansas. He finally completed high school in Bentonville and immediately got into the University of Kentucky. His family told him to study at the University of Arkansas but he went with the University of Kentucky.
Malik Monk Career
Ever since he was a young kid, he was enthusiastic and interested when it came to basketball, it was a dream of his to become a basketball player and play on a professional level. As a freshman, he was averaging 22.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game and was leading with an overall 25-8 scoreline record and also an appearance in the Class 2A state championship game. Once his freshman season ended, he transferred to the Bentonville High School in the city of Bentonville, Arkansas. He averaged a total of 26.6 points per game in his junior year.
College Career
He also competed for the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) team, Arkansas Wings Elite, on the Nike Elite Youth Basketball Circuit (EYBL) in the spring and summer of the year 2015 where he averaged a total of 19.7 points per game. In the same year, he also competed on the Nike Global Challenge for the East team where he averaged 22 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists as well as earned the Tournament MVP honors.
On the date of 18th November 2015, Malik chose to commit to Kentucky, choosing the UK over Arkansas where, as a senior, he averaged about 28.6 points per game, 4.4 assists, and 7.6 rebounds per game. He competed in the 2016 McDonald’s All-American Game and Jordan Brand Classic in the year 2016 and earned Co-MVP honors alongside his Kentucky teammate De’Aaron Fox. Malik joined the University of Kentucky in November 2015and on December 17th, 2016, he set a University of Kentucky freshman scoring record when he scored 47 points and won the game against the University of North Carolina. He also scored a total of 34 points when he played Ole Miss, leading his team to a 99-76 scoreline victory.

Malik was selected with the eleventh overall pick in the NBA draft of the year 2017 by the Charlotte Hornets on June 22nd, 2017. On July 2nd, 2017, he signed his rookie scale contract with the Charlotte Hornets which was worth over 15,726,047 dollars. While he was in his rookie season, he was assigned to the Charlotte Hornets’ NBA G League affiliate, the Greensboro Swarm for just one game in which he scored a total of 25 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists on December 26th, 2017.

On the date of February 26th, 2020, Malik was suspended indefinitely for violating the NBA’s substance use policy. On June 8th, he was reinstated as it was determined that he was in compliance with the anti-drug program.
