Leila was born on 20th March, in the year 1992 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia to her parents Vincent D’Onofrio and Greta Scacchi. Her father is known to be an actor and producer while her mother is an actress. She grew up with her mother in Brighton, East Sussex in England while her father lived in New York. She is also known to have three younger half brothers, Matteo Mantegazza from her mother and Luka and Elias D’Onofrio from her father and stepmother Carin van der Donk.
Leila completed her education at a local high school in England and in 2008, she went on to pursue acting and drama at Brighton college where she studied for a year until shifting to Crawley College. In 2010, she attended Arts Educational Schools in London. She left in 2011 to attend Sydney Film School in Australia. In 2012, she also went to attend Lee Strasberg Institute in New York.

Leila started her career as a crew in 2013 when she worked in a documentary film “The Last Impresario” as a camera operator. Her acting career started along with her mother when she was cast in “The Seagull” for Black Swan Theatre Company where she played the role of Arkadina’s romantic rival, Nina. Her career in films and television started in the year 2016 when she was cast in the television movie “Mother, may I sleep with danger?”. A couple of years later, in 2018, she appeared in the movie “Mortal Engines” in the role of Katherine Valentine.
The following year in 2019, she appeared in the role of Sara Cutler in another movie named “The Kid” and also got her breakthrough role in the series “Animal Kingdom”. She is still cast in the show in the role of young Janine and has a recurring role over the length of the series as one of the main characters. Recently, she starred in the music video of the song “Bed on fire” by Teddy Swims in April 2021 and received a lot of attention and praise.
