Julie Benko is an American actress, writer, producer, and actress known for her work in films like The Help, Mandy Moore, Step Up Westside, and Pixels. She is also well known for her albums Vogue and My Beautiful Life. Julie is also a successful singer who has released five studio albums since 1993. Currently, she is producing and serving as a casting director for the Netflix series House of Cards.
Early Life
Born on August 15, 1990, in New York City, Julie Benko is the daughter of actors Jacques Benko and Meredith Benko. Her older brother Michel is an actor as well. In her childhood, Julie was interested in acting from an early age. Her mother was an actress, and her father was a photographer. She has an older half-sister named Molly Berube from a previous marriage. Her younger half-sister is actress Chloe Sevigny, whose film credits include The Help, Step Up Westside, and Pixels.
She attended the Center for Performing Arts at Roosevelt University in New York City from 1987 to 1990, where she studied drama. As a result of her performances at the CPA theatre, she was offered a role in the play called The Enchantress of Elba by Richard Fleischer, where she played minstrel girl Henrietta Landon. From 1990 to 1992, she worked in television commercials as a voice-over artist with Disney while enrolled at Brown University, where she studied theatre and speech pathology.

From age five, Julie was interested in performing and acting in various school plays, voice-over projects, and advertisements. At the age of 18, she made her film debut in the lead role of Bridget Jones in the film adaptation of The Help. She went on to play supporting roles in The Hangover, Mr. Rogers, and Boiler Room and appeared in two Disney Channel movies, Cinderella and Cinderella 2. In 2000, she won the NAACP Image Awards for her role in the Netflix series House of Cards. Julie would be portraying the character Fanny in the Funny Girl on Broadway from 8th September 2022.

In 1993, she married her childhood friend and acting colleague Bob Kahn who, in addition to producing the couple’s three children together, also co-created and produced the Showtime series The Affair.
