Juju Watkins was born on 15th July 2005 in Los Angeles. Parents Sari and Robert Neal-Watkins raised her. Ted Watkins Sr., her grandfather established the Watts Labor Community Action Committee in the aftermath of the 1965 Watts riots to offer employment opportunities and social services.
Juju has three siblings named Mali, Dami, and Mar. She gained a basic school education from Sierra Canyon School in Los Angeles. She studied at the University of Southern California and majored in communication.
Career
Juju started playing basketball in a park league at age seven. At Windward School in Los Angeles, she held the title “SportsKid of the Year” by Sports Illustrated Kids in 2020. Then, she was transferred to Sierra Canyon School in Los Angeles.
She was ranked as the number one recruit by ESPN. She earned national high school player of the year honors. She was Ms. Basketball in 2022 and 2023. She was Gatorade National Player of the Year (2023) and Naismith Prep Player of the Year (2023).
She played in the McDonald’s All-American Game, where she shared MVP honors in 2023, and the Nike Hoop Summit. She repeatedly received honors for the Player of the Year in 2020 and 2022 from the Los Angeles Times through her basketball performance at school.
Medals and Honors
- At the 2021 FIBA Under-16 Americas Championship in Mexico, she represented United States and tournament MVP honors. She won a gold medal. She started her 7 games and averaged 20 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.2 steals, and 3.7 assists per game.
- At the 2022 FIBA Under-17 World Cup in Hungary, she represented the United States and won a gold medal. She received tournament MVP honors, and her average was 13.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 2.3 steals per game.
- On 15th November 2022, she announced her commitment to the USC Trojans. Her position is guard.
- Season 2023-24: She played 29 games, with an average of 27.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.5 steals, 3.3 assists, 41.2 FG% and 2.5 steals per game.
