Josh Hartle is probably the biggest surprise for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons this season. He is currently a sophomore pursuing a communications major at the university, and he gets good grades in academics too. Although, it is not enough for him as he wants to make big in sports and especially in the major league.
He was selected as the 2021 Gatorade North Carolina Player of the Year. With his leadership, Reagan High School in North Carolina won the 4A state title and the 2021 West Regional Championship. He was recognized as the best pitcher in Central Piedmont Central in 2021, and he was also named to the all-conference and all-state teams each of his four years.
Early Life
Josh Hartle was born on March 24, 2003. His parents Larry and Susan Hartle raised him alongside his sibling Zach and his sister Lexie. He played alongside the infielder Tommy Hawke back in high school. While growing up, he was a huge fan of Wake Forest and always desired to join there since his childhood days.
Josh Hartle Career
He was one of only two pitchers in Wake Forest baseball history to make at least 14 starts as the team’s Saturday starter, and he was also the sixth freshman in school history to win at least seven games. Josh allowed just one earned run in 69.2 innings across five starts against Georgetown, Central Michigan, Longwood, NC State, and LIU, the fewest in the weekend rotation.
He had at least five strikeouts in each of his first six college starts, including his debut for the Demon Deacons, a win over Georgetown. In the win over NJIT, he struck out a career-high eight batters while allowing just two hits over 6.2 innings.
He struck out five in seven innings against LIU in his NCAA Tournament debut while allowing just one run on three hits. He allowed just two hits in an ACC victory against Duke. Against Central Michigan and Longwood, he did not issue a single walk to batters.
