Sinner also claimed the 2024 ATP Finals title and four Masters 1000 trophies. He helped Italy win back-to-back Davis Cup titles in 2023 and 2024. Sinner began playing pro tennis at age 16 after a quiet junior career. At 17, he won several ATP Challenger events and quickly broke into the top 100 in 2019.
That same year, he won the Next Gen ATP Finals and was named ATP Newcomer of the Year. In 2021, he became the youngest ATP 500 champion by winning in Washington. He also was the first man born in the 2000s to enter the top 10. His first Masters 1000 title came in 2023 at the Canadian Open.
At the 2024 Australian Open, he beat world No. 1 Novak Djokovic and then came back from two sets down to defeat Daniil Medvedev in the final. That win started a historic season, where he went on to win multiple big events and finished the year as world No. 1. Fans love his calm attitude, strong mindset, and clean hitting. Sinner’s rise shows what hard work and belief can do.
Early Life
Jannik Sinner was born on 16th August 2001 in Innichen, South Tyrol, in Italy. His parents are Johann and Siglinde Sinner, and he grew up in the nearby town of Sesto, where his father worked as a chef and his mother as a waitress at a ski lodge. He was raised alongside his brother, Marc.
Sinner started skiing when he was just three years old. Between the ages of eight and twelve, he became one of Italy’s top junior skiers. At eight, he won a national title in giant slalom. By twelve, he had finished as the national runner-up.
That same year, Jannik chose to leave skiing and football behind to focus only on tennis. He didn’t enjoy the limits that came with playing football, especially the team structure. He wanted to make his own choices and depend on himself. Tennis gave him that freedom.
Jannik Sinner’s Career
Jannik never worked hard for trying and playing in junior matches; instead, he began playing on the ITF Men’s Circuit back in the early months of 2018. He appeared for various events and began receiving his wild cards for the ATP Challenger Tour events.

He appeared as the wild card at the Rotterdam Open, where he had his first top 10 victory against the world No. 10, David Goffin.
Jannik Sinner became the youngest quarterfinalist at the French Open after the record was earlier held by Novak Djokovic in 2006 and became the first to appear in the quarterfinals on his debut after Rafael Nadal in 2005.
During the tournament, he defeated Goffin again as well as the US Open runner-up and the world no. 7, Alexander Zverev, before finally losing to Nadal. Jannik Sinner won his second ATP title at the Great Ocean Road Open, where he won over World No. 20 Karen Khachanov in the semifinals and thereby became the youngest to win back-to-back ATP titles since Rafael Nadal in 2005.
Jannik made the record of a 10-match winning streak, which eventually came to an end in the first round of the 2021 Australian Open, where he lost the game while standing against World No. 12 Denis Shapovalov in a tight 5-set match. In the year 2022, Sinner appeared for the Australian Open and reached the quarterfinals of a major for the second time.
He became the 5th Italian man to reach the stage in Melbourne. But, in the quarterfinals, he lost the match to 4th seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets. He also appeared to have another record at the 2022 Wimbledon Championship, where he recorded his first win at the major over Stan Wawrinka.
Then, he reached the third career Grand Slam quarterfinals after defeating other champions like Mikael Ymer, John Isner, and Carlos Alcaraz. Jannik Sinner had a breakthrough in 2023, winning his first Masters 1000 title, reaching his first Grand Slam semifinal at Wimbledon, and leading Italy to a historic Davis Cup win.
In 2024, he captured his first two Grand Slam titles at the Australian Open and US Open, became world No. 1, and won the ATP Finals and three Masters 1000 titles. Despite a brief suspension due to an accidental doping violation, he returned in 2025 to reach the finals of the Italian Open and French Open, narrowly losing both. His rise continues as one of tennis’s top stars.
