Carlos then reached the quarterfinals and defeated the quarterfinal qualifier named Peter Gojowczyk. He became the youngest man to reach the US Open men’s quarterfinal in the Open Era. Also, he became the youngest man in participating in major men’s singles quarterfinals after 18-year-old Michael Chang at French Open 1990.
