Goran Kristijan Gogic is a former heavyweight boxing champion who made a remarkable amateur career in the sport over twelve years. He retired soon from boxing and is now in news for having been involved in a drug trafficking conspiracy.

Early Life

Goran was born on 4th August 1979 in Pljevlja, Montenegro. He is currently in his early 40s and settled in his hometown. He hasn’t shared much about his background, early life, and even his parents but is believed to be a Christian by religion. Goran’s early background is out of the public purview and thus there isn’t much known about his educational background and school or college life. He is definitely known to have been passionate about boxing since his early years and is assumed to have taken professional coaching in the same as well.

Goran started his boxing career in 2001 and debuted in a match against German boxer Alexander Kahl. He matched several bouts against Bradley Rone, Peter Bolden, Ivica Perkovic, Tayar Mehmed, and many others. Goran was a heavyweight category boxer weighing 250 pounds and throughout his boxing career, secured a win in most of the bouts through knockouts. He only lost 4 times and tied twice. His last bout was against boxer Liviu Ungureanu on 7th July 2012. Even though he secured a win, but retired soon after his last match. Controversy

Goran was recently accused of having trafficked over 20 tons of cocaine worth over $ 1 billion. He was arrested on October 31st, 2022 at the Miami international airport while he was trying to board a flight to Zurich. He was charged with three counts of violations of federal drug regulations and also for conspiring. The said drug was found in 2019 at the Parker avenue maritime terminal in Philadelphia and two people connected with the scandal were arrested.

The cocaine was planned to be shipped to Europe by loading through smaller speedboats at night and hiding in smaller commercial containers. Goran’s name came up in the case for having formulated the whole plan and for also overseeing the logistics of shipments. More cocaine was seized in Peru, Panama and other countries like The Netherlands and the complete seizure came to be known as the largest seizure in US history. Goran is currently in custody and is expected to serve a minimum of a 10-year term.
