Derrick Henry is an American football player who plays as a running back for the Tennessee Titans of the National Football League (NFL). He has posed the larger stature while being more than an average running back that earned him the nickname “King Henry”.
Early Life
Derrick Henry was born on 4th January 1994 and as of 2022, he is merely 28 years old. He was born in Yulee, Florida to his loving and caring parents named Stacy Veal and Derrick Henry Sr. and both were then aged 15 and 16 respectively. Henry’s father, who had the pet name “Big D” was absent for much of his childhood. He was being arrested more than 20 times in his life for various crimes including drugs abuse, prostitution-related offenses, and had trouble maintaining normal employment life. Derrick Henry’s grandmother became a hemodialysis technician who had a great hand in raising Henry while instilling in him good thoughts and moral values. He developed a close relationship with his grandmother.

Derrick set a national high school football record. He played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide where he also spent his junior seasons while breaking the record of Herschel Walker in single-college rushing yards. He won the 2015 Heisman Trophy, the Maxwell Award, the Doak Walker Award, and the Walter Camp Award. Henry was drafted in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Titans. He helped the team to stand in the NFL rushing yards for the 2019 season as well as the rushing touchdowns. In 2020, he led the league in rushing yards and touchdowns while becoming the eighth player in NFL history in the category of rushing for over 2,000 yards in a single season. He became the second Tennessee Titan to make such a record. Henry also won the 2020 Associated Press NFL Offensive Player of the Year Award.
School Career
Derrick went to Yulee High School where he was honored with the three-sport star title in football, basketball, and track. He played football as a running back for the Yulee Hornets Football Team. he ran for 2,465 yards and 26 touchdowns as a freshman in 2009. He was honored with the title of first-team All-Coast selection at running back in 2010 after he rushed for 2,788 yards, 38 touchdowns, and an average of 8.9 yards per attempt.
College Career
Derrick played and attended college football at the University of Alabama from 2013 to 2015. He received a degree in communication and graduated on 4th May 2014. That same day of the year, he published an article in The Players’ Tribune thanking his late grandmother for being the greatest inspiration to continue pursuing his degree along with having a good career in football and other games.
Professional Career: 2021 Season
Derrick began the season while beginning with the slow speed. He rushed for 58 rushing yards as the season began with the loss of the Titans against the Arizona Cardinals with an overall score of 38-13. During Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks, Henry finished while rushing for 182 yards, three rushing touchdowns, 55 receiving yards, and a win for the Titans with a 33-30 in overtime. Henry earned the honor of AFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 2. For Week 6, he rushed for 143 yards and three touchdowns with an overall score of 34-31 with a win over the Bills. With this particular performance, he earned the second title for AFC Offensive Player of the Week.
