Early Life
Daniil Sergeyevich Medvedev was born in Moscow, Russia on 11th February 1996. He was born to his parents Sergey Medvedev, a computer engineer, and his mother Olga Medvedeva. He is known to have two older sibling sisters named Julia and Elena. Daniil was interested in sports since he was a kid and used to take swimming lessons until his mom enrolled him in tennis. He also used to learn guitar. His family has been known to live in France ever since he went to train in Tennis.
Daniil has had an extraordinary route in his education as he used to study maths and physics at specialized schools and graduated earlier than his peers. He later enrolled himself at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations to study Economics and commerce. He did not finish his graduation from college and dropped out to focus on his career. In order to complement his career, he went on to attend the Russian University of Physical Education, Sports, Youth, and Tourism and attained a diploma as a coach.

Daniil started his career in 2015 when he played his debut match in the Kremlin Cup in a Doubles event and won. He later made his singles debut in the year 2016 Nice Open but lost against Guido Pella. The same season, he won his first-ever ATP singles title in the 2016 Ricoh Open against Horacio Zeballos.
The following year, he reached the ATP Single however he couldn’t win the title as Roberto Bautista Agut defeated him in the final with a 6-3, 6-4 score. He recorded his first Grand Slam in 2017 Wimbledon defeating Sm Wawrinka. The next year, he won the Sydney International Finals and became the youngest ATP tournament winner since 2007.
Meteoric Rise
The same year he again won the ATP final in the 2018 Winston-Salem Open. His third title came soon in Tokyo and made him world number 22 and Number 1 in Russia. Later, the same year he reached the rank of 16. In 2019, quarterfinals of the Monte Carlo Masters, he won for the first time against then-world number 1 Novak Djokovic and kept the same form in the Rodger Cup where he defeated the top 10 players.
He became world number 5 and started US Open 2019 where he kept up his game as well securing several wins. In the 2020 season, he lost at the ATP Cup and Australia Open after which the season was paused due to Covid 19. He returned and again lost against Dominic Thiem in Semi-finals but in the 2020ATP finals, he won all matches and became the first player to defeat the top three world rankers.
He followed his form in the next half of the ATP finals in 2021 and won several matches. Medvedev later won at the Australian Cup scoring his second grand slam final. He also won his first Open 13 title which made him rank 2 in the world. Daniil could not continue in the 2021 Monte Carlo Open due to testing positive for COVID-19. He came back in the season and lost against J.Struff in the first match of the Halle Open 2021.
Controversy
Daniil has often been under media attention due to his frequent behavior of insulting Umpires. In 2016, he was disqualified in the 2016 Ricoh Open 2nd round due to his racist comments on the unbiased umpire. Moreover, he continued the conduct in the next season at Wimbledon and was fined $14500 total for insulting umpires and throwing coins under their chair.
