Aziz Ansari is an American actor, writer, producer, director, and comedian known for his role as Tom Haverford for the series Parks and Recreation. He is the creator of the Netflix series Master of None for which he has been awarded two Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe.
Early life
Aziz Ansari was born to a Tamil Muslim family from Tamil Nadu, India on February 23, 1983, in Columbia, South Carolina, United States. His mother, Fatima, is an obstetrician and gynecologist, and his father, Shoukath, is a gastroenterologist both of them based in South Carolina. His parents also were seen in the first two seasons of the comedy-drama series Master of None. Aziz grew up in Bennettsville, South Carolina with his brother Aniz Adam Ansari. Ansari did his schooling from Bennettsville where he went to South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics and Marlboro Academy. Then in 2014, he was enrolled at the New York University Stern School of Business where he graduated with a Bachelor of Business degree in marketing.

Aziz was also fond of acting, and while he was studying at New York University, he performed at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. He also did stand-ups and in 2005, Rolling Stone mentioned him in their annual “Hot List” and won the award for Best Stand Up at HBO’s 2006 U.S. Comedy Arts Festival. He collaborated with fellow comedians and created short films and series, and was seen in the sketch series Human Giant in 2007. In 2008, Ansari made it to the cast of NBC’s comedy series Parks and Recreation where he played the role of Tom Haverford for nearly 7 years. in 2015, Aziz along with Alan Yang created and wrote Master of None where he starred as Dev Shah. The two was initially planned for two seasons but in early 2020 he shooting for the third season began in London.
For the same, he earned a Gloden Globe nomination and four Emmy nominations. His other notable television work is also seen in the series Ugly Delicious, Fight of the Conchords, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, and The Getaway. Ansari has also appeared in many films including Get Him to the Greek, I Love You, Man, 30 Minutes or Less, This Is the End, and Observe and Report. In 2010 he was shooting for 30 Minutes or Less directed by Ruben Fleischer. He is also an author who published his book Modern Romance: An Investigation, which is a research book and was published in June 2015. Aziz will be seen in season 3 of Master of None which is most likely to be premiered in May 2021. The show also features Noël Wells, Eric Wareheim, Kelvin Yu, Lena Waithe, and Alessandra Mastronardi.
Controversies
In January 2018, a woman posted an article on Babe.net and accused Aziz of sexual misconduct. According to the article, the woman has also texted Ansari expressing her discomfort and he had replied to her with an apology. This also became a flashpoint of discussion about the #MeToo movement. Many of his projects were kept on hold due to his but later Aziz publicly addressed the issue by himself.
