Sandy Hook Elementary Shooting
On the school intercom system, which was being utilized for morning announcements, several of those present heard the first gunshot. Lanza then approached a first-grade classroom, where a substitute teacher, Lauren Rousseau, had gathered her first-grade kids to the rear of the room and was attempting to hide them in a bathroom when Lanza forced his way in. Rousseau, Rachel D’Avino (a behavioral therapist who had worked with a special needs student for a week at the school), and fifteen children in Rousseau’s class were all killed. Fourteen of the children died at the scene; one of the injured children was transferred to the hospital for treatment but subsequently died. In the bathroom, the majority of the professors and pupils were found gathered together.
Police discovered the sole survivor, a six-year-old child, in the classroom after the shooting. During the shooting, she hid in a corner of the classroom’s lavatory. According to her family’s pastor, she escaped by pretending to be dead. “Mommy, I’m okay, but all my friends are dead,” she told her mother when she reached her. “A really furious man,” the child said about the shooter. Police said a girl sheltering in a restroom with two teachers heard a kid shouting in the classroom “Help me! I don’t want to be here!” said Lanza, who replied, “Well, you’re here,” before adding, “hammering.” “sounds. At 9:40:03 a.m., officers heard the final gunfire. They thought Lanza had shot himself, which was correct.

Lanza’s tremendous anxiety and multiple mental illnesses are said to have contributed to a psychotic break, which led to his slaughter and eventual suicide.
