Talen’s sibling, Trey, followed in their parents’ footsteps and played baseball at Murray State College, later joining the New York Collegiate Baseball League in 2014. Her sister, Trenity, has been involved in softball and has played for esteemed institutions like Missouri, Texas Tech, and San Jose State. Tallen Edwards signed with Oklahoma State before her final year of high school, so she could play volleyball instead of basketball. She was listed as the third-best softball prospect in the country for the class of 2023 by Extra Innings Softball’s 2023 Extra Elite 100.
During her short high school career, she and her teams won multiple titles under head coach Jason Lingo, including the 6A Slowpitch State Championship in 2022 and the 6A Fastpitch State Championship in both 2020 and 2021. She was named to the 6A-1 All-District team all three years she played at Southmoore, and she was named to the All-Coach first team all three years.
Tallen was a member of the Birmingham Thunderbolts 18U Premier, a club softball team based in Alabama’s capital city. She learned the ropes from Rock Thompson. In her first year of college ball in 2023, she hit.244 with three RBI against Maryland on February 12 and.333 with two RBI, a double, and a home run in wins over Michigan on February 18 and New Mexico on February 24.
She hit a three-run home run against UTEP on February 26 and went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and a double in the first game of a doubleheader against Incarnate Word on April 1. She went 3-for-3 with two runs scored in the first game against Texas on April 22 and hit her first career triple down the right-field line against No. 1/1 Oklahoma on May 6. At the NCAA Stillwater Regional on May 19–21, she hit.500 (5-for-9) with three runs scored, two doubles, and two RBI.
