Kate Siegel is an American actress and screenwriter. She is best known for her work in her film known as Oculus that was released in 2013, Hush in which she wrote the screenplay, Gerald’s Game- released in 2017, Origin of Evil-released in 2016, television series The Haunting of Hill House-released in 2018, the Haunting of Bly Manor-released in 2020 and Midnight Mass-released in 2021. In all these films including the television series, she has worked with her husband who is a filmmaker by profession and is called to be Mike Flanagan.
Early Life
Kate Siegel was born on August 9, 1982 in Silver Spring, Maryland to Paul and Laura Siegelbaum. She went to St. Andrew’s Episcopal School and continued her education there only in her hometown. Later in 2004, she went to Syracuse University and done her graduation from there.

Kate Siegel started her acting career with the debut film The Curse of The Black Dahlia which was further released on 23rd January 2007. The same year she went to cast herself in the film Hacia La Oscuridad which had its world premiere at Tribeca Film Festival on 28th April 2007. She has also acted in the film named “Steam” alongside Ruby Dee and Chelsea Handler. In 2008, Siegel appeared in a short film that was named “Knocked Down” that was directed by Ted Collins. She first appeared on the television screen while acting in “Ghost Whisperer” as Cheryl in 2009. The very next year, she appeared in Numb3rs where she was highlighted with the role of Rachel Hollander.
Later, she appeared in an episode of “Castle” and in the same year, she appeared in the thriller drama that was known to be “Wedding Day”. In 2013, Siegel appeared in the film named Man Camp. That same year she was cast in the film “Oculus” which was one of the horror films of the year and was directed by her husband Mike Flanagan. The film had its world premiere at Toronto International Film Festival that was held in September 2013 and was later released in April 2014. She appeared in a drama television series that was named Mob City. Then in 2014, she appeared in the film Demon Legacy. In November 2015, it was made public that Kate Siegel and her husband Mike Flanagan would be adapting the fiction Young Adult “13 days to Midnight” into a film.
Rise to Fame
In 2016, Siegel made her debut with screenwriting opposite her husband Mike Flanagan in the film that was named Hush, and that further had the world premiere at South by Southwest on 11th March 2016 and was later released on Netflix on 8th April 2016. In July 2016, Siegel was cast in a commercial that was made for Stelara psoriasis medication. That same year, Siegel was cast in the film named Ouija: Origin of Evil that was also directed by her husband Flanagan which was further released on 21st October 2016. In 2017, again the film in which Siegel was cast was directed by Flanagan which was the adaptation of Stephen King’s Gerald’s Game where she worked alongside Carla Gugino and Bruce Greenwood.
The film was a psychological horror-thriller that was based on the story of a couple who arrived at a house that was especially isolated for their holiday. The thriller was based on the story that how they together made their days when the husband died of a sudden heart attack and the wife was left handcuffed with the bed without keys in her hand. The story surrounds the survival of the wife with all those conditions that came her way. In 2018, Kate Siegel starred in the film called “The Haunting of Hill House” which was released on Netflix that was a supernatural horror film. The film was based on the novel by the name of Shirley Jackson 1959. Later, she was starred in the podcast named “Calling Darkness” as a narrator and later gave her voice to the podcast called “The NOSleep”.
