Andrea Constand is a former college basketball player from Canada who is famously known to have been a part of the sexual assault case against comedian Bill Cosby. She had filed civil as well as criminal suits against Cosby who was convicted in 2018 although recently the ruling was overturned.
Early Life
Andrea was born on April 11th, 1973, in Toronto, Canada. She was born in a white Christian family to her parents Gianna Constand and Andy Constand. Andrea grew up playing basketball and with her elder sibling sister Diana Constand Parsons. She is currently 48 years old.
Andrea completed her high school education at a local school in Toronto and meanwhile, she also played basketball actively with the Arizona Campbell Collegiate Institute. She later went on to attend the University of Arizona on a sports scholarship and graduated with a degree in Communications.
Andrea Constand Career
Andrea started her career as a basketball player from high school where she actively played the sport for Arizona Campbell Collegiate Institute and later based on her performance she went on to join the Wildcats team at the University of Arizona. She played basketball all through college and in her senior year, she managed to lead the team to win NIT. Further, after her graduation, she went on to pursue basketball professionally and moved to Italy. She pursued the sport for two years. Meanwhile, she was a part of the national team for the 1997 Summer Olympics for Canada.
Later, she joined the Temple University in Ontario as a Director of Operations for the women’s basketball team which she accepted. In 2015, she appeared in the Documentary Film “Cosby- The Woman Speak” which documented the case of sexual assault against her. Later, after she suffered sexual assault, she started Hope Healing and Transformation foundation to help sexual assault victims. She is currently a director at the Organisation and about set to release her book, “The Moment” in September 2021 documenting her experience and her voice through the case against Bill Cosby.
Personal Life
Andrea has not mentioned anything about her personal life and relationships and has never been known to have married or engaged. She does not have any children either. Moreover, she likes to keep her personal life highly private although she has publically come out as a Lesbian.
Controversy
Andrea was involved in a sexual harassment case which she filed against comedian and Entertainer, Bill Cosby. She had already known him through mutual connections and in a gathering in July 2004, she claims that she was given Blue Pills to relax by Cosby which was later revealed to be antihistamine, Benadryl. She also stated that after she had the pills she was left unconscious and was touched inappropriately. Further, she mentioned that after she woke up at 4 am, she was naked in a bed.
Allegation against Cosby
Cosby denied the allegation stating that the sexual encounter was consensual. She later filed a criminal complaint against him in 2005 but due to lack of evidence, the case was closed. Another civil complaint was filed by 13 other women who had claimed to be the witness of the event but all these claims were settled out of court by Colby. Again, Tamara Lucier Green, another victim of a prior sexual assault case came up but the same was again denied.
Later, the same year, Cosby’s deposition was released where he admitted to having bought illegal drugs to have sexual relations with women. In 2015, a criminal investigation review was set up and the case was reopened and a warrant against Cosby was issued. The trial restarted and he faced 3 second-degree felony charges and in 2017, Judge declared a mistrial due to an indecisive Jury. Later, in 2018, Cosby was finally convicted for three charges and a 10-year prison sentence. Recently, in 2021, his conviction was overturned by the judge stating that his own testimony was used against him to convict him and had weakened his defense. This led to a lot of backlash by people and various people spoke up including disappointed Andrea.
