Thomas McDonell is an American actor, musician, visual artist, and photographer well known for his role on The CW’s The 100. Thomas Hunter Campbell McDonell was born on May 2, 1986, in Manhattan, New York, US. He was born to Terry McDonell and Joanie McDonell. His father is an editor of the Time Inc. Sports Group, directing editorial content and operations for Sports Illustrated, SI.com, GOLF Magazine, and GOLF.com.

His father Terry is of Scottish and Swedish descent while his mother, Joan is a writer and is of Jewish descent. Thomas has one elder brother, Nick McDonell, who is also a writer. He has authored the novel Twelve, which made it to the New York Times bestselling list. He attended boarding school in Andover, Massachusetts. Thomas graduated from New York University with a BA degree in Fine Arts.

His film debut was as a young Southie in the Chinese-American fantasy film The Forbidden Kingdom alongside Jackie Chan and Jet Li. He played a role in the action-drama movie Twelve alongside Chance Crawford and Emma Roberts. The film, directed by Joel Schumacher, is based on the novel of the same name written by Thomas’ elder brother Nick McDonell. Thomas played the lead role of Jesse Richter in Disney’s teenage film Prom alongside Aimee Teegarden.

He then appeared in several other films like Dark Shadows, Fun Size, Life After Beth, Where the Devil Hides, I’m Obsessed with You, 10 Things I Hate About Life. He has also appeared as Eddie Boyle in an episode in the television series Law & Order: Criminal Intent, as a guest star in Suburgatory, in the role of Scott Strauss as Tessa’s boyfriend, as Spc Carl Wild in the National Geographic drama mini-series The Long Road Home, as Justin in LA to Vegas and as Brian in Good Girls.

Thomas is best known for his role as Finn Collins alongside Eliza Taylor in The CW’s post-apocalyptic series The 100. Along with acting, Thomas is the lead singer and guitarist for the band Moon. He has curated and held several exhibitions internationally, most spotlighted being the tunnel exhibit at the historic Southwest Museum site in Los Angeles, US. He has also held a video art show at Best Buy in New York and a monochrome painting exhibition at the ArcLight Hollywood movie theatre.
