Susie Wiles Biography

Susie Wiles is an American political consultant currently serving as a senior advisor on Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign. Wiles is one of the most influential and effective strategists in the Republican Party, especially in Florida, where she helped Trump win twice in 2016 and 2020. She has also actively participated in the special counsel’s investigation into Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified documents following his departure from office.

Early life

Susie Wiles was born on May 14, 1957, and raised in New Jersey. Pat Summerall, a former NFL player, and sportscaster, is the father of Wiles, and she has two siblings. She graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, with a bachelor’s degree in political science.

Susie Wiles Career

Susie Wiles started her career working for former Representative Jack Kemp (R-NY) as a staff assistant from 1979 to 1980. She later worked as deputy director of scheduling for former President Ronald Reagan ® during his 1980 presidential campaign and then as a special assistant to the president in the Executive Office of the President from 1981 to 1982.

Back in the 1990s, Wiles worked as head of staff for John Delaney, then the mayor of Jacksonville. Wiles also worked for U.S. Representative Tillie Fowler (R-FL). From 2004 to 2009, she advised the mayor of Jacksonville, John Peyton.

Wiles was seen as instrumental in the victory of Rick Scott ‎in the 2010 race for Governor of Florida. ‎At the moment, Scott was seen mainly as ‎an outsider with virtually little to no ties to the Florida GOP.

Rise to Fame

Susie worked for the 2012 presidential campaign of former Utah governor Jon Huntsman Jr back in 2011. She and former Jacksonville Jaguars player Tony Boselli started a consulting business in Ponte Vedra Beach while working on the Huntsman campaign, although she withdrew from the race in July 2011.

Susie also ran Tallahassee-based lobbying firm Ballard Partners for close to a decade but left in September 2019, citing “a nagging health issue.” She managed the charge of the Trump campaign’s Florida operations during the 2016 presidential election.

In 2018, Donald Trump expressed his backing of Ron DeSantis’ run for Governor in Florida, with Susie Wiles appointed by him to help propel the endeavor. But in 2019, she was fired from her position as DeSantis’ top counselor due to “rising tensions between the pair.” Susie served as CEO of Trump’s Save America PAC in March 2021.

In April 2021, Politico referred to Wiles as the “new honcho atop Trumpworld,” noting that she would have power over Justin R. Clark, a crucial adviser, and Bill Stepien, the former 2020 campaign manager. She was referred to be Trump’s “chief of staff” in effect in August 2022 in the lead-up to the 2022 midterm elections and his 2024 presidential campaign launch.

Controversy

In 2023, Wiles made headlines for several significant reasons. Firstly, authorities identified her as one of the unnamed individuals involved in Trump’s indictment, which accused him of mishandling 37 counts of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago resort. Trump had shown her a classified map related to a military operation in 2021 and explicitly instructed her not to get too close to it. As part of the ongoing investigation, Wiles has cooperated with federal investigators and attended multiple meetings.

Susie worked in a lobbying firm representing Chinese corporations, raising concerns about potential threats to national security and their involvement in human rights violations. This discovery sparked further scrutiny of her activities and connections.

Susie played a pivotal role as Trump’s “chief of staff” leading up to the 2022 midterm elections and the announcement of his presidential campaign in 2024. Overseeing Trump’s Save America PAC, she successfully raised over $100 million since January 2021. Furthermore, Wiles had been actively coordinating with other key allies and advisors of Trump, including Bill Stepien, Justin Clark, Jason Miller, and Steve Bannon.
