Early Life, Education & Childhood

Scott Drew was born on 23rd October 1970, making him 54 years old as of 2024. His complete name is Scott Homer Drew. Scott received his graduation from Butler University in 1993 with a degree in Liberal Arts. During his bachelor’s, he remained a member of Delta Tau Delta International Fraternity.

Scott never played basketball during his college days but spent two years as a student assistant and used to play tennis. He never earned a letter, even in tennis, and remained a student assistant for the men’s basketball team at varsity level. His father [Homer Drew] was a basketball coach at Valparaiso and had his retirement in 2002.

After that, Scott Drew began serving as the head coach of Valparaiso only for one season. Scott Drew shared his childhood memories with his brother, Bryce Drew, who is also an athletic personality. The brother is a head coach at Grand Canyon University, teaching basketball to the men’s team.

Career

Scott Drew began his professional career as a coach for the Butler Bulldogs Men’s Basketball Team (as a student manager) in 1991 until 1993. From 1993 to 2002, he became or served the designation of assistant for Valparaiso, where his father served before retirement.

Afterwards, Scott Drew spent another year/season, 2002 to 2003 (after his father’s retirement) at Valparaiso. Since 2003, he has been spending his job and coaching responsibilities at Baylor University as a head coach. Scott Drew was hired as a head coach for Baylor after a resignation was accepted from Dave Bliss due to his involvement in a scandal.

It was an unusual late for the change in head coach as the season opener was three months away. Because of the scandal, Baylor University withdrew its name from postseason games for the 2003–04 season. The university placed itself on probation until 2005. During his first season, Scott Drew made a record for the university and had a score for the team- 8-by-21.

After the first season, Baylor University deducted a number of scholarships and started giving payments, food, and accommodation to its recruiting players/visits through 2006. During the season of 2005, the NCAA committe passed a sanction and extended the probation of the university until 2010.

Besides these penalties, the university could play only a few games. Under these penalties, the university saw a record of 9-by-19 in the 2004-05 season and 4-by-13 in the Big 12 Conference-only 2005–06 season, all under the guidance of Scott Drew. After having a few games in the NCAA Elite Eight, the team was invited by the NCAA Tournament for the season 2012-13.

Why is Scott Drew in the News?

Since NCAA Tournament March Madness 2024 is going on as of 19th March 2024, there are speculations that Scott may have a job at Louisville University. The recent head coach [Kenny Payne] at Louisville has been fired. But, on the same side, Scott Drew has cleared the speculations by saying that he is locked for Baylor University only. Drew told The Athletic,

“…..My family is happy at Baylor, I’m happy at Baylor, we’re extremely blessed to be here. We’re staying at Baylor…..”
