Sam Landry is a softball player who is a representative of the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Softball team in the NCAA. She is also a member of the National Honors Society and the CFA Leadership Academy. Sam was chosen for the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) All-Louisiana Collegiate Softball Team and was named to the Second Team All-Sun Belt. She won Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week honors twice.

Early Life

Sam Landry was born in Houston, Texas, on March 5, 2003. Her parents are John and Nichole Landry and she spent her childhood with her four sisters, Chelsie Bradlie, Alyssa Landry, Charleigh Landry, and Lakynn Landry. She has one brother, Stephen Landry.

She actively participated in community service at Barbers Hill High School by organizing softball games for law enforcement and firefighters, mentoring young players, and participating in Adopt a Family for Christmas. Sam is a biology major with a pre-med major who hopes to enter medical school and become an anesthesiologist. She also intends to get a doctorate in the future.

Sam Landry was rated as one of the Top 5 prospects in high school (No. 4) by Extra Innings Softball. She was a starting pitcher for four years at Barbers Hill High School in Mont Belvieu, Texas, and one of only 40 players from around the country selected to compete in the 2021 Premier Girls Fastpitch (PGF) High School Senior All-American Game.

Sam Landry Career

Her prep career was capped by a Texas Class 5A state victory set up when she struck out 12 batters and tossed a one-hit complete game shutout in the semifinal round. During her senior season, she went 17-1 with a 0.40 ERA and struck out 252 hitters in 121 innings thrown.

She won recognition at all levels (District MVP, First Team All-Greater Houston, 2019 TGCA All-State Team) for her pitching throughout the 2019 campaign, striking out 189 batters. Sam threw 65 strikeouts and was voted Barbers Hill’s Defensive MVP during the COVID-19 truncated 2020 season.

She had a stellar summer of 2020 for Houston Hotshots Premier-Dumezich, recording 170 strikeouts against top competition at ASA 18U Nationals and was named to the Extra Inning Softball 18U All-Summer Team. Sam led Louisiana’s pitching staff in victories in both conference play (12) and overall (20) during her first year of college in 2022. She led all Sun Belt pitchers in conference victory percentage (12-1,.923).

She also recorded a nine-game winning streak for herself between March 19 and April 20, making eight starts with one earned run or less. Through her first 10 starts in SBC competition, she was unbeaten (8-0), struck out at least five hitters 13 times, and reached double digits three times. She dominated the Troy series, taking two victories while allowing only one run, four hits, and a.089 average over 13 innings and pitching a combined shutout of Texas State.
