Sam Callis Biography

Sam Callis is an English actor and director who is famously known for playing the role of Callum Stone in the police procedural television series The Bill and Adam Benjamin in the television drama London’s Burning.

Early life

Sam Callis was born on November 21, 1973, in Ely, Cambridgeshire, England. There are no details regarding his mother and father but he has a brother named Ben Callis who is also an actor and director based in England. Together they have worked on many projects also and won several awards at different award shows. Sam grew up in Haslemere, Surrey with his brother Ben. Initially, Sam went to Camelsdale Primary School and after that attended Midhurst Intermediate School in Midhurst, England. In the same town, he then completed his high schooling at Midhurst Grammar School. Soon, Callis decided on pursuing acting as his career line and then went to London where he trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.

Callis went to the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, a drama school located in Hammersmith, London where he trained to become a professional actor. While studying he also played minor roles in theatre and plays. His first major role was seen when he played Adam Benjamin in London’s Burning and later in Ultimate Force as Captain Patrick Fleming. Till 2007 he was also seen in the cast of medical drama The Royal as Doctor Mike Banner and later joined the cast of The Bill.

Apart from television series, Callis has also been seen in notable films such as in Kidulthood he played a security guard, in Spanish TV Movie Trance he played Nick, in Capital Punishment he played Russell Blake and he starred in Shrink as Max. In 2010, as the show The Bill came to an end, Callis went on to direct a short film which was called Inside Run. The movie was also shown at the BFI London Film Festival in October 2010.

In 2011, Callis starred in Henrik Ibsen’s The League of Youth as Stensgard which was premiered at Nottingham Playhouse in May 2011. The next year he appeared in Hay Fever, a comic play written by Noel Coward. Around the same time, he played Jack Worthing in The Importance of Being Earnest at Nottingham Playhouse. In 2015, Callis produced the film, Whisper and also appeared on stage roles of The Tempest and Henry V in 2019. Sam will be seen as the re-enactments for the Netflix series The Lost Pirate Kingdom in 2021. The show also stars Derek Jacobi, Evan Milton, and James Wheatley.

Callis has been married to his long-time girlfriend back then, Osmin. The couple met each other while shooting for London’s Burning and have been together ever since.
