He played in 4 seasons during his college days. In 2013 he showcased his amazing skills during the very first year of college and the first season of his collegiate career which won him the title of ‘Quarterback of the week’ in the collegiate weekly awards with a CFPA honorable mention. The American athletic conference also gave him the award of ‘Offensive Player of the week’ and he also stood as a finalist for the Manning Award for his amazing performance in 7 out of 12 games. In the following sophomore year and 2014 season, he lost his consistency in performance, yet he managed to score his career-high 29 completions along with 49 pass attempts in overall 7 games of the season, also it earned him three honorable mentions during the season.
He improved himself in the following season. In a victory against UCF during the 8th week of the season, he altogether threw for and received a pass in two, two-point conversion attempts. He concluded that season with 3179 rushing and passing yards altogether. The last season of his collegiate career proved to be a record-setting season as he became the all-time passing yards leader of the Owls’ with 10273 yards. That season he won numerous awards including one from the American Athletic Conference championship game most outstanding player and another as CAPA National player of the year watch list. On the 3rd of May in 2017 Walker was undrafted as a free agent by Indianapolis Colts.
Road to NFL
Later during the month of October in 2019, the newly formed XFL drafted him for the upcoming season of 2020. Before the 2020 XFL draft took place, he was already allowed to Houston Roughnecks. His very first performance in the first game led him to the league’s first-ever ‘Star of the week’ award. The rest of the season was canceled due to the ongoing covid-19 pandemic. He concluded the 2020 season with a 5-0 record, 1338 passing yards along with 15 passing touchdowns, and four interceptions. He also led the league in terms of both passing yards and passing touchdowns. Walker signed a 2-year contract with Carolina Panthers on the 25th of March in 2020 which led him to his college head coach Matt Rhule. He came to play in the third quarter on the 29th of October as a replacement.
