At UNC Wilmington, Nick made his first career start and finished with a no-decision after tossing 4.0 innings with three runs on four hits, two walks, and five strikeouts. He had 14 appearances, including 13 starts, as a junior in 2021. In 68 innings pitched, he was 3-5 with a 5.16 ERA, struck out 36 hitters, walked 24, and allowed opponents to hit.293 off of him.
He recorded a season-high six strikeouts over seven scoreless innings in the 2-0 victory at Liberty, earning a position on the President’s List (4.0 GPA) for both the 2020 fall and 2021 spring semesters. Nick Parker pitched a seven-inning complete game in a 13-1 seven-inning victory over South Alabama on Senior Day. He was named to the Dean’s List (3.5 GPA or above) for the 2021 fall and 2022 spring semesters. He had the best performance of his CCU career as a senior, striking out a career-high 10 batters in 8.0 innings of scoreless work in a 9-1 victory over East Carolina on June 5 to earn a berth on the 2022 NCAA Greenville Regional All-Tournament team. In the regional, CCU met UVA as well, but Parker did not throw.
Rise to Fame
Prior to playing for Virginia, Nick had 40 career starts, which places him 15th all-time in CCU’s lifetime record books. On his career pitching ledger, he has two NCAA Tournament victories in two starts, against East Carolina in 2022 and Florida A&M in 2019.
Nick gets selected for the National Team of the Week on February 20 and May 1 by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. On February 18 against Ohio, he made his UVA debut and tied his then-career high with 10 strikeouts. He also retired his final seven opponents. On April 29, Parker faced No. 20 Duke and struck out a career-high 12 batters.
The right-hander pitched 6.2 innings, allowing just four hits and two runs against the Blue Devils. He faced 13 batters in all, retiring 11 of them. It was the most strikeouts by a Cavalier pitcher this year and the most by a UVA starter since 2021.
