Melissa Fumero Biography

Melissa Fumero is an American actress and director, famously known for portraying the lead role of  Amy Santiago in the comedy television series Brooklyn Nine-Nine. She was also seen in a recurring role of Adriana Cramer on One Life to Live from 2004 till 2011.

Early Life

Melissa Fumero was born in Lyndhurst, New Jersey, United States on August 19, 1982, to archaeologist Carlos Gallo and a mother named Martha Gallo who is a travel guide. She has a brother named Maximillian Gallo and two sisters named Julia Gallo and Johanna Gallo. Her parents are originally from Cuba but immigrated to the United States when their children were teenagers.

Melissa did her high school education at Lyndhurst High School and then went to The New York University Tisch School of the Arts and completed her graduation with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama in December 2003. Since she was a child, Fumero has been taking dance classes and now is a trained dancer.

On January 20, 2004, Melissa Fumero joined the cast of One Life to Live as Adriana on her last day while she was a student at NYU. The role was originally given to Amanda Cortinas for a few months but later on, Melissa was taken in and stayed on the project on and off till 2011. Then in 2009, she was seen in I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell, Important Things with Demetri Martin, and in Tiny Dancer as Ati, which marked her big-screen debut as the lead. Later for New Year, she was featured in Gossip Girl, The Mentalist, Royal Pains, CSI: NY, and Men at Work. Finally, in 2013 she landed on the cast of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, a comedy television series where she played one of the lead roles of Amy Santiago, alongside Andy Samberg who played Jake Peralta.

In the same series, Fumero also made her debut as a director, when she directed an episode of season 6 of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Then later in 2014, she made a guest appearance on Top Chef Duels and subsequently featured on Hollywood Game Night, Mack & Moxy, The Admirable, Hell’s Kitchen, The $100,000 Pyramid, One Day at a Time, and the film DriverX. In 2018 she even narrated an audiobook The Land I Lost (Ghosts of the Shadow Market 7). Moreover, in 2020, Melissa also did voice roles in Elena of Avalor, Antonia, She-Ra, the Princesses of Power, and Big City Greens. In 2021, Fumero will be doing a voice-over for Melissa Tarleton in Marvel’s adult animated streaming series M.O.D.O.K.

Fumero has been married to her co-star from the sets of One Life to Live, David Fumero. The couple got married in December 2007 and then on March 24, 2016, they were blessed with their first child, Enzo. At that time, Melissa was still shooting for the fourth season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Recently, the couple welcomed their second child named Axel on February 14, 2020.
