Early Life, Education & Childhood

Mark Sears was born on 19th February 2002 in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. He was raised by supportive parents, Chad and Lameka Sears (mother). His father, Chad, was a high-school football player. His mother, Lameka, served as a private sitter. The mother is currently working as a sales representative. 

He has one younger sister, Makenzie. Talking about his education, Mark completed his education at Muscle Shoals High School in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. He then transferred to HMA (Hargrave Military Academy) in Chatham, Virginia. He attended Ohio University from 2020-2022. 


Mark Sears began playing basketball during his school days. He played as a first- and third-year student at Muscle Shoals High School. Mark Sears then played as a senior player at Hargrave Military Academy. His average was 14 points, three assists, and five rebounds per game. He supported his teammates and became a Three-star recruit. He committed to play for the Ohio Bobcats men’s basketball team and represents Ohio University. 

  • Season 2020-2021: He played in 23 games with five starts. As a freshman, he averaged 8.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, 47% (FG%), 3.4 assists, and 1.0 steals in 19.5 minutes per game. 
  • Season 2021-2022: He played as a sophomore and started in all 35 games. He averaged 19.6 points, 6 rebounds, 44% (FG%), 4.1 assists, and 1.7 steals in 35.7 minutes per game. 

Alabama Crimson Tide

He then committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide men’s basketball team and represented the University of Alabama on 8th April 2022. He trained under head coach Nate Oats. In season 2022-2023, he played and started in all 37 games. He averaged 12.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 40% (FG%), 1.2 steals, and 2.6 assists in 29.8 minutes per game. 

Sears, a standout player, scored 30 points, showcasing his skills both from long range and driving to the basket. His performance, marked by a 9-of-13 shooting accuracy and strong presence at the foul line, propelled Alabama to success. Notably, Sears’ impactful surges in the first and second halves turned the tide in Alabama’s favor, demonstrating his pivotal role in the team’s triumph. As a second-team AP All-American, Sears’ contributions extended beyond scoring, as he effectively involved his teammates in the game. 

Honours and Awards

  • At Ohio University, he earned the title of MAC (Mid-American Conference) All-Freshman Team in 2021. In the 2021-2022 season, he earned the title of “First Team All-MAC.” Through his hard work, he became a five-time MAC Player of the Week also. 
  • He was named “Second-team All-SEC” in 2023.
