Marilyn Mosby Biography

Marilyn Mosby is an American politician and lawyer. She has been working as a State attorney for Baltimore since 2015. She is named as one of the youngest chief prosecutors of any major American city.

Early Life

Marilyn Mosby was born on 22nd January 1980 and as of 2022, she is 42 years old. She was born in Massachusetts and was later raised in Dorchester, Boston, by her grandparents. Her mother, Linda Thompson was nearly 17 years old when Marilyn was born. Talking about her biological parents then they were both police officers and had their traces or association with police for two generations. Her grandfather was one of the first African-American police officers in the state. Marilyn went to Dover-Sherborn High School that was an hour away from her home. She also served as the student of the Government association and co-editor of the school newspaper.

She developed her interest or got sparked by the murder of her 17 years old cousin by another 17-year-old cousin outside her home. Later, her cousin was mistakenly identified to be a drug dealer and was subsequently murdered. In 2000, Mosby was nearly 20 years old and was a student of Tuskegee University when James appeared on the Judge Judy television show and sued a roommate for damaging her property during summer break. She won the arbitration and was awarded $1,700. Later, she completed her education and received her graduation from Tuskegee University with a (B.A.) degree. Thereafter, she earned a Juris Doctor degree from Boston College Law School in 2005.

Marilyn Mosby Career

Marilyn Mosby served as a law clerk. She was appointed as an assistant state’s attorney for Baltimore from 2005 to 2011. Earlier in this position, she held a series of legal internships in Boston in law school. Mosby announced her plans regarding the state’s attorney elections for the city of Baltimore. She ran the incumbent and stood against Gregg L. Bernstein in the Democratic primary. Later, she defeated the latter one by 55 percent of the vote. She faced no opposition in the general elections. Mosby also won the general elections while receiving 94 percent of the votes. She defeated Russell A. Neverdon Sr, staged for write-in campaigns. At the time of the elections, Mosby was one of the youngest prosecutors who majored in the US city.

In January 2019, Mosby announced that her office would no longer look after the prosecutors of the individuals involved in marijuana possession (regardless of quantity). Also, she added that she would vacate nearly 5,000 marijuana possession convictions. Later in the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, Mosby announced that her office would no longer prosecute drug possession, minor trafficking, and other low-level offenses to draw up the spread of coronavirus in Baltimore prisons. In March 2021, she said that she would rather make those changes permanent. She said that the temporary experiment had not led to more serious crimes.

Since then, Marilyn has used the last name “Mosby” in her name permanently. On the other hand, Nick Mosby (Who is Nick J. Mosby in full) is an American politician who belongs to Baltimore, Maryland. Currently, he is serving to be the president of the Baltimore City Council. First, he was selected to serve the city council from 2011 to 2016, and later, he was appointed to the Maryland House of Delegates and became the 40th district while representing Baltimore city. Later in November 2020, he was elected as Baltimore City Council with the role to be resumed from December 2020.
