During a standout true freshman season, Lopez earned several important victories and pitched in many crucial situations, recording five victories and leading the team with 66 strikeouts. She made 18 starts out of 30 total appearances for a record of 5-13, a 5.12 ERA, and two complete games.
On February 21, she pitched a complete game at UNLV, allowing just four hits and a walk while striking out 11 batters, including the final three she faced to end the game. This was the most strikeouts by a Utah pitcher since 2012 when Generra Nielson struck out 12 against Utah Valley (5/8/12). Mariah pitched 94.1 innings and surrendered 110 hits while earning her first career win. On May 1, she pitched 6.2 innings, striking out seven hitters and allowing only four hits.
In 2022, the Southpaw was a regular starter in the rotation during her sophomore campaign and compiled an 8-5 record in 18 starts and 25 total appearances. Throughout the season, she maintained an impressive 3.08 Earned Run Average (ERA) while accumulating 80 strikeouts in 91 innings pitched. Her exceptional performance on the mound limited opposing hitters to a team-best batting average of .247.
Lopez pitched five full games and joined with teammate Halle Morris for a run-rule shutout against UC Riverside (2/25) for the team’s sixth of the season. She had a solid outing against Kansas (3/5), pitching 5.1 innings, giving up four hits, two runs, and striking out a season-high nine batters to earn her fourth victory of the year. Mariah threw a fantastic game against #3 UCLA (4/30) on the road, lasting six innings and allowing only four hits and two runs while striking out seven Bruins.
