Early Life

Linda Harding is probably living into her fifties and she was born in the 1970s. She grew up in North Little Rock, Arkansas, and graduated from the University of Central Arkansas in 1982 with a degree in Speech Pathology and Special Education. There is no information available regarding her parents or siblings.

She got married and had three children before deciding to enroll in the University’s nursing program. Her paintings are in museums, homes, and other collections all around the United States. Harding lives in Little Rock, Arkansas when she is not traveling for photoshoots.

As she was developing into a mature person, she spent a lot of time in her bedroom refashioning old garments. Her room was a constant repository of hand needlework, handiwork, sketchbooks, and sketches. After discovering that her college dorm roommate was enrolled in a photography course, she decided to give it a try herself. She was captivated by the mysteries of photography and the darkroom.

Linda Harding Career

Linda Harding’s photography techniques pit humanoid figures against forebodingly barren settings. Harding’s photographs have a magical realism–like quality to them, thanks to his inspiration from the Surrealists and the softer palette of Edgar Degas. Desaturated values and muted painterly tones are integral to her method, giving her images the appearance of being created by hand. The dreamlike aspect of her subjects gives the impression of looking into a fantastical realm.

Some of Harding’s works are built from carefully layered photographs to create a scene whose meaning is ultimately up to the viewer. A solitary forest stretches its arms into a blanket of fog in Reaching. It’s almost like a movie still, with the way certain parts are emphasized or exaggerated giving the impression of a larger story.

She was overjoyed when Governor Asa Hutchinson appointed her to the Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts in 2019. She is the only delegate in Arkansas to have been appointed by Governor Hutchinson. The Kennedy Centre building itself is remarkable. The National Symphony Orchestra and the Washington National Opera call it home, but Broadway shows, dance performances, comedy acts, and a wide variety of concerts draw audiences from around the world.

She is also active in REACH, a platform for interdisciplinary performance art that aims to break down barriers between artists and their audiences. The REACH launched in 2019, and members may now cast ballots on courses and initiatives.
