Keyontae Johnson Biography

Keyontae Johnson is an American college basketball player who made a grand comeback after almost 20 months in college basketball. His full name is Marrecus Keyontae Johnson and plays for the Kansas State Wildcats of the Big 12 Conference and held the Shooting guard/Small forward position.

Early Life

Keyontae Johnson was born on May 2000, which makes him 23 years old as of 2023. His father is Marrecus Johnson, and his mother Sharnika Johnson is a sheriff. He has three siblings named Brianna, Ebony, and Zimarya. Regarding Keyontae Johnson’s education, he attended Norview High School for primary education. Later, he transferred to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. He again had transferred to Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Education Sciences from Florida in 2022.

Keyontae Johnson started his career during his high days. Steve Smith coached him. Also, he served as an assistant coach at Arkansas State for a short period. He committed to playing college basketball for the Florida Gators men’s basketball team. 


He played in freshman season as a key reserve. During the 2019 SEC men’s basketball tournament, he started the final 20 games of the season. He averaged 8.1 points and 6.4 rebounds, 47% (FG%), 1.3 Assists, and 0.3 blocks in 23.8 minutes played per game.

He played as a sophomore in all 31 games and maintained an average of 14 points, 7.1 rebounds, 54% (FG%), 1.6 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. He was named first-team All-SEC (2020). 


He played in 4 games and averaged 16 points, 4. rebounds, 64% (FG%), 1.3 assists, and one steal in 20.3 minutes playing per game.


On December 12, 2020, he collapsed on the court in a game at Florida State. He arrived at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, where doctors assessed him for three days medically. He was taken back to Gainesville, Florida for further treatment. Later, his head coach Mike White announced that Johnson had rejoined the team as a coach. He was announced as the honorary starter on Senior Day against Kentucky. On August 20, 2022, he committed to Kansas State.


He wore jersey no. #11 K-state, and was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Year on the First Team All-Big 12. Keyontae played in all 33 games. He averaged 17.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, 51% (FG%), 2.2 assists, and 1.1 steals in 34 minutes of playing per game.
