Jhony Brito, also known as Jhony Rafael Brito (born on February 17, 1998), is a Dominican baseball player currently serving as a professional pitcher for the New York Yankees in Major League Baseball (MLB). In 2015, he was signed by the New York Yankees as an international free agent and has since established himself as a right-handed pitcher. He was recognized as one of the Yankees’ top 100 MLB prospects after the 2022 regular season. Brito recently made his debut in MLB in the year 2023.

During his formative years, Jhony Rafael Brito resided with his family in the Puerto Plata region of the Dominican Republic. As a teenager, Jhony began his professional career by joining the DSL Yankees rookie affiliate team, where he played his first games.

In the following year, Brito played with the Low-A Staten Island Yankees, where he made three scoreless starts and recorded eight strikeouts throughout the 2017 season.

After undergoing Tommy John surgery, Jhony Brito’s season ended, and he could not play the entire 2018 season. In 2019, he came back and played for the Single-A Charleston River Dogs. During this time, he participated in 22 games, 9 of which he started, and he recorded a win-loss record of 6-4. He also had an earned run average (ERA) of 3.58, 79 strikeouts, and two saves, having pitched for 100 and two-thirds innings. Brito did not participate in any games during the 2020 season, as the minor league season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2021, he played for the High-A Hudson Valley Renegades and Double-A Somerset Patriots. He started in 22 games and achieved a record of 7-7, with a 3.55 ERA and 118 strikeouts in 116 and two-thirds innings pitched. Throughout the 2022 season, Brito played for Somerset and the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. He participated in 26 games, 23 of which he started, and achieved a cumulative record of 11-4. He also registered a 2.96 ERA and 91 strikeouts in 112 and two-thirds innings pitched.

The Yankees safeguarded Jhony from the Rule 5 draft by being included in their 40-man roster on November 10, 2022. To commence the 2023 season, Brito was sent down to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, but due to Luis Severino’s lat injury, he was promoted to the major league rotation at the start of the season. Consequently, Jhony made his major league debut on April 2.
