Jessica McNamee was born in June 1986 in Sydney, Australia to parents Peter and Helen McNamee. She has 1 brother and 3 sisters, including her older sister, Penny McNamee, who also became a stage and television actress in both their native country and the United States. Sensing that she could become labeled by such roles, she departed the series in 2010 and pursued projects that allowed her work outside of the scope of her TV personas. Her big-screen debut occurred in the 2009 horror-thriller film ‘The Loved Ones’ which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2009. McNamee debuted in the American Film Industry with the film “The Vow,” as the younger sister of amnesia sufferer Rachel McAdams in 2012. The film was shot in Toronto. Since then, she has been unstoppable and has worked in movies with co-stars such as Emma Stone, Steve Carell, William Fichtner, and Jason Statham. She has made a name for herself as one of the most promising actors working in the industry today. She returned to “Packed to the Rafters” for the final season in 2013, as a special guest star. Later she appeared in guest roles on stateside television series on the short-lived comedy show “Sirens” (USA Network, 2014-15) for producer Denis Leary.

Rise to Fame

She was a main character in the show and played the role of Theresa Kelly, a Chicago police officer. In 2017 McNamee starred in the role of a tough Highway Patrol officer in Dax Shepard’s big-screen spoof of “CHiPS”. Her acting was much appreciated in the film and also proved to be her breakout performance in the United States. She also portrayed the role of Margaret Court, a real-life Australian tennis champ and outspoken opponent of gay rights in “Battle of the Sexes.”

She played the ex-wife (Lori) of megalodon hunter Jonas Taylor played by Jason Statham, in the blockbuster The Meg in 2018. In 2019, McNamee was chosen to play the role of Sonya Blade in Mortal Kombat. McNamee lastly was seen in the films ‘Locusts’ and ‘Black Water: Abyss’. She played one of the main characters in both films. Since then she has not revealed any of her future engagements but according to reports there may be another four films in the Mortal Kombat series and Jessica would be the one playing the role of “Sonya Blade” which she has portrayed beautifully in the past as well.
