She is a Maldivian politician who served as the Deputy Speaker of the People’s Majlis until her resignation on December 3, 2023. Currently a Member of Parliament, she has a diverse professional background. She worked at the World Health Organization and the UNFPA and as the Manager for the now-defunct local newspaper Minivan Daily.
Representing the Galolhu Uthuru constituency, Eva has been a parliamentarian for three consecutive terms since 2009. Formerly associated with the Maldivian Democratic Party, she switched allegiance in May 2023 and is now a member of The Democrats.
Eva made history by securing a unanimous vote of 76 parliamentarians and becoming the second woman to hold the position of Deputy Speaker. In 2019, she achieved another milestone as the second woman to preside over a parliamentary meeting, following in the footsteps of former Deputy Speaker Aneesa Ahmed in 2008.
However, her political journey faced a tumultuous turn in 2023 when she resigned as Deputy Speaker amid a no-confidence motion initiated by 50 parliamentarians.
