Desi Sills Biography

Desi Sills is 25 years old young adult who is committed to college basketball. He was the only Razorback to play all 98 of Arkansas’ games the last three years. Additionally, he made the Department’s Honor Roll (GPA between 3.0-3.49) for Fall 2020. He was named to the 2021 SEC Winter Honor Roll.

Early Life

Desi Sills, in full, Desi De’Auntra Arnaz Sills was born Dec. 29, 1998, in Jonesboro, Ark. He is the Son of Desi and Shawna Neal Henry. He has four siblings, including two brothers (Travon Neal and Quaavon) and two sisters (C’cchae and Devonce). Desi played with the Arkansas Hawks AAU team, alongside Isaiah Joe and Ethan Henderson. He earned a bachelor’s degree in recreation and sports management from Arkansas State in July 2022. Recently, he has been working towards a master’s degree in conflict analysis and trauma studies.

High School

247Sports and ESPN rated him as the No. 3 player in the state of Arkansas. He achieved the ranking of a consensus top-50 pick among the nation’s top point guards. At Jonesboro High School in Jonesboro, Ark., he played three seasons and contributed to the Hurricanes’ overall record of 82-8. He played a crucial role in the team’s three consecutive trips to the Final Four of the Class 6A State Championships, including winning back-to-back championships in 2017 and 2018.

As a senior in 2017-18, he earned a spot on the USA Today All-Arkansas First Team while he was in high school. Additionally, he was selected twice for the First Team Class 6A in 2017 and 2018. In the senior year of 2017-18, he helped Jonesboro win the state championship and achieve a record of 26-5 by maintaining a career-high average of 20 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.5 assists.

As a junior in 2016-17, he achieved another record-breaking average of 15.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists, leading Jonesboro to a perfect 32-0 record and the state championship. Wes Swift coached him during this undefeated season, which was the first since 1954.

Freshman Season (2018 – 19)

In 2018-19, he actively participated in all 34 games, starting in 8 of them. The Razorbacks had a record of 18-16, with an 8-10 mark in SEC play, and made it to the NIT Second Round. He achieved a season-high of 3 steals against Ole Miss (3/2/19). Desi played in all 18 SEC games, starting in 5 of them, and maintained an average of 5.1 points on 40.6 percent (28-of-69) shooting, including 46.9 percent (15-of-32) from 3-point range, in conference play with 1.1 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 0.5 steals in 16.7 minutes per game. He was able to connect on 70.0 percent (21-of-30) from the free throw line and scored in double figures in 4 games in SEC play. Mike Anderson was his coach.

Sophomore Season (2019 – 20)

In 2019-20, he played in all 32 games and started 24 games. The Razorbacks had a 20-12 record, with a 9-11 mark in SEC play, before the COVID-19 pandemic cut the season short. He ranked fourth on the team in scoring (10.6 ppg.), field goals (117), and minutes (31.2 mpg.). He scored in double figures in 10 games in SEC play and was coached by Eric Musselman.

Junior Season (2020 – 21)

In 2020-21, he played in all 32 games and started in 15 games. The Razorbacks, coached by Eric Musselman, achieved a 25-7 record, with a 13-4 record in SEC play, and made it to the Elite Eight. He scored in double digits in nine out of 10 games during the first 15 games of the season, averaging 12 points on 46.2 percent shooting (61-of-132). Additionally, he scored in double figures in four SEC games.

Senior Season (2021 – 22)

In the 2021-22 season, the player started in 27 out of 29 games and participated in all of them. The Red Wolves achieved their highest win total in five seasons, with a record of 18-11, thanks in part to his efforts. He also scored in double figures 9 times in Sun Belt Conference play, with a single 20-point game. He led the conference in steals per game with 1.9 and ranked 13th in assists with 2.9 per game and 19th in scoring with 11.7 points per game. Mike Balado was his coach.
