Cam Carter Career

High School

In 2019-20, he played his junior season at East Ascension High School in Gonzales, La., where he helped the Spartans achieve a 26-9 overall record and a runner-up finish in District 5-5A. However, they lost in the second round of the 2020 Class 5A State Tournament. The Louisiana Sports Writers Association recognized him as an honorable mention All-State selection at East Ascension in 2019-20. He was then transferred to Oak Hill.

He made it to the First Team All-District 5-5A and First Team All-Parish squads. Moreover, Steve Smith (Oak Hill Academy) and Tyler Turner (East Ascension) coached him. He contributed to Oak Hill Academy’s 20-9 record and helped the Warriors advance to the quarterfinals of the GEICO Nationals during his senior season (2020-21). It’s worth noting that Oak Hill Academy has produced more NBA players (33 in total), including famous current players such as Carmelo Anthony, Cole Anthony, Ben McLemore, and Rajon Rondo, than any other school in the country.

Freshman

Carter helped Mississippi State achieve an 18-16 overall record, including an 8-10 mark in SEC play, and a trip to the NIT in 2021-22, playing in 27 of 34 games with 4 starts. He played in more games than any other Bulldog freshman and all 4 starts were in SEC play. He averaged 8.4 minutes per game, logging 227 minutes throughout the season. Almost half of his total minutes (108) were played in the last 11 games. In his first start at Alabama (2/16/22), he played a season-high 28 minutes.

Cam scored an average of 2.1 points per game on 38.5 percent shooting (20-of-52), including 30 percent (6-of-20) from 3-point range, with 0.8 rebounds, 0.9 assists, and 0.4 steals per game. He connected on 68.8 percent (11-of-16) from the free-throw line and scored in 12 games, including two double-digit scoring games.
