Deborah Roberts is a popular American TV journalist. She has worked as an anchor, a reporter, and a talk show host. Roberts is widely known as one of the most powerful black women in broadcast journalism. She hails from a small town in Georgia, United States. Deborah garnered massive attention for journalistic work for ABC news, which is a division of the ABC broadcast TV network. Her most notable works are as an anchor of shows such as Good morning America, World News Tonight Weekend, guest host of ABC daytime show, The View, and her present appearance as a host of Lifetime Live, a show on the Lifetime channel.

Early Life

Deborah Roberts was born on September 20, 1960, in Perry, a small town in the state of Georgia, USA, to her parents, Benjamin Roberts and Ruth Roberts. Her father was a Carpet installation business owner, while her mother was a homemaker. Deborah was raised among 9 siblings. Her elder brother‘s name is Lawrence Jr., also known as Butch. Her eldest sister is Tina Clarington.

Deborah attended the infamous Henry W Grady College of journalism and mass communication, Athens, at the University of Georgia, for higher education.  She graduated there in 1982, with a degree in bachelor Journalism. From there she began her journey in the industry of journalism. Where only a decade later, Deborah was honored with the award of University of Georgia Distinguished Alumnus, due to her massive success in the industry.

Deborah Roberts Career

After graduating in 1982, Robert began her journey by getting a job at a local TV station called WTVM in Columbus, Georgia. After that, she moved on to WBIR, another TV station in Knoxville Tennessee. From the year 1987 to 1990, Deborah worked several jobs as bureau chief, weekend news co-anchor at WFTV (a local TV station in Orlando, Florida), and a NASA field reporter. In 1990, Deborah was appointed to the NBC news channel as a reporter. She soon became a correspondent on an NBC news magazine program called Dateline, NBC. In 1995, Deborah left NBC for ABC news. Where she got hired as a correspondent for the 20/20, newsmagazine program. She later worked as an anchor for two other shows, Good morning America, a morning news show, and World News Tonight Weekend, a weekend evening news show.

In July and September of 2006, Deborah appeared as the guest host on The View talk show program, which was also produced by ABC daytime, a branch of ABC. In 2016,  Deborah published her first book, Been There, Done That: Family Wisdom for Modern Times, a nonfiction written by Deborah and her husband Al Rooker. She is also a recipient of numerous prestigious accolades such as an Emmy award, and a clarion award in the category of broadcast journalism. She was highly praised for her contribution to various news network shows, like nightlife, primetime, good morning America, the Katie Couric Show, and the lifetime life on the Lifetime television channel.

Deborah Roberts is happily married to her husband Al Rooker, for 26 years. He is also a famous television personality. The couple tied the knot on 16th September 1995. The couple together has two kids. Their first child was a daughter named Leila was born on November 17th, 1998, she is 23 years old currently. Their son is 19 years old and he is named Nicholas, who was born on July 18th, 2002. He suffered from certain learning disabilities while growing up but recently has been accepted to a reputable college in the USA.
